Are HTC phones any good without Android?

Relevance: 80%      Posted on: July 26, 2009

In my years of reviewing phones, I've only tried two HTC phones. One is the Windows Mobile powered HTC Touch Dual and the Android-powered HTC Dream. Before that, HTC was way down my list of phone brands. Until Android came. Today, the HTC Magic is probably one of the most sought-after smartphones locally (although the price kinda ruined all that excitement). The phone was also the subject of focus between telco-rivals Smart and Globe. Yet, I can't shake the fact feeling that all these attention is probably due to Google's Android OS rather than the device itself. This brings me…

Relevance: 80%      Posted on: June 18, 2011

Almost everyone is jumping into the Android craze and it has done a lot of wonders for many manufacturers. Let's put this to a vote, shall we? So who makes the best Android phones? Who's your favorite handset manufacturer? Our choices are: HTC LG Samsung Sony-Ericsson Huawei Cherry Mobile Torque Motorola Acer I think it's going to be a toss-up between HTC and Samsung. HTC has a lot…

ZTE Smooth: Android China Phones are here!

Relevance: 76%      Posted on: February 21, 2010

Last month, I wrote about the possible entry of China phones running Android OS in the smartphone market. Looks like ZTE counld be the first one with their "Smooth" handset. This Palm Pre-look-alike runs Android OS 1.6 and it ain't bad-looking either. According to Engadget, the ZTE Smooth has a 2.8-inch QVGA screen, WiFi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth and GPS. And at only $146, this looks like one hot item to consider (probably the very first Android smartphone under $200) when it comes out in August 2010. Hat tip to Chadd.

We already have Android phones and tablets, and recently, Google went into watches with Android Wear and has also announced an Open Automobile Alliance for Android cars. What's next? It's probably Android TV. The Verge claims to have obtained information on what Google is working on as of the moment and it is going to succeed Google TV. This time however, it's fully made out of Android. Android TV will feature your movies, TV shows, apps, games and notifications all in one platform featuring Google's Card UI. Major app and game developers are already working with Google for this project,…

Relevance: 70%      Posted on: January 16, 2010

Imagine one of the best and free mobile OS installed on the cheapest phones in the market? Yeah, those cheap knock-off phones from China could probably one days come with an Android OS. I realized there's nothing in this world these Chinese factories cannot make so why not a cheap phone with Android OS in them? It doesn't need to be touchscreen but the basic specs that we're seeing in the gray market will do: Dual Active SIM, QWERTY keyboard, WiFI, 3G, a TV Tuner, 256MB internal storage for Android App and up to 8GB microSD Card. If they can…
