Cherry Mobile taps Ainol for cheap ICS tablets

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: May 26, 2012

A number of readers have pointed out to me last week that Cherry Mobile is already selling what could be a co-branded Ainol Paladin tablet so I confirmed it with the folks from CM if this as indeed true. We posted our review of the Ainol Paladin here back in January which was a huge hit for being the first ICS-powered tablet in the Philippines. That, plus the fact that it was really very affordable at Php5,800. Cherry Mobile's official statement was that "Ainol is an exclusive ODM Partner" (Official Device Manufacturer). This means CM can actually carry any or…

Today we attended the local launch of Lenovo's two new budget Android tablets -- the IdeaTab A3000 and its dual-core sibling the IdeaTab A1000. At first sight, both of these tablets may look identical to each other particularly when viewed head on. But truth be told, while these two new A-series tablets from Lenovo do share a few similarities, there’s more to these Android slates than meets the eye and this subtle contrasting features could mean the difference between getting one from the other. Let’s start off with the IdeaTab A3000 which, by the way, retails for Php9,999. It’s got…

Cheap iPod battery replacement at CDR King

Relevance: 73%      Posted on: May 11, 2007

Was looking for DVI/HDMI cables and adaptors last night and I thought CDR King might have them. They didn't have them but I was surprised with the newer stock of gadget accessories they have -- iPod replacement batteries. And they're pretty cheap too -- prices starts at Php350 for the iPod Shuffle to Php400 for the newer generation iPod Videos. I also checked their website and they got it on display. The prices are so low they're almost as cheap as the other cellphone batteries along the sidewalks and half as much as generic batteries for my Canon dSLR. Now,…

Heck, you might not even know that they actually manufacture anything other than cameras and photography-related products until only recently when we previewed their latest offering that was displayed in this year’s CES. But times have changed since Polaroid’s hey-day in the camera scene, and they, like…

It’s now cheap to wiretap Lozada and de Venecia

Relevance: 66%      Posted on: February 22, 2008

According to a report, a group of hackers at the Black Hat conference in Washington D.C. claim that they're able to hack GSM calls with equipment costing about $1,000. Until now, wiretapping over a GSM network is an expensive operation that only the military and the intelligence divisions have the money to do so. With that "Crying Baby" videos on YouTube about Jun Lozada and Joey de Venecia, looks like everybody with $1,000 cash will soon be able to afford to wiretap anyone. Technology will always catch-up but people can always avoid it. Problem with people like Gloria/Garcillano and the…

Asus unveiled their Android-powered and Windows-based slate PCs last CES 2011 and true to their word, they're launching all of them in the Philippines before end of this quarter. Here's an invite we got yesterday that mentioned 4 new top of the line products and a teaser shot of what is obviously a tablet PC. They've got both Android and Windows 7 tablets on the roster -- Asus Eee Slate EP121, Eee Pad MeMo, Eee Pad Transformer and Eee Pad Slider. I'm hoping they'll be affordable this time, considering the iPad has already gained momentum. More on this once we…

Relevance: 65%      Posted on: December 21, 2012

Looks like it's never too late for HTC to jump on the Windows bandwagon as they plan to release two variants of their own Windows RT tablets in 2013. HTC was reported to be already working on two variants of its Windows RT tablets - a 7-inch and a 12-inch device. The 7-inch tablet will feature calling and texting capabilities which is similar to some of Samsung's current tablet offerings. Obviously, it's an attempt to get into the ring with other 7 inchers like the Google Nexus 7, iPad Mini, even Amazon's Kindle Fire. Both HTC tablets will be running…
