Google Tone: A Cool Way To Share URLs Using Sound

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: May 21, 2015

Google has recently released an experimental Chrome extension called Google Tone which allows users to share URLs with other devices in close proximity using sound. A short post on the Google Research’s blog gives us a brief overview of the science behind Tone. If you’re in to that kind of stuff, you can head over here. In a nutshell, Google Tone makes it easier for users to share URLs with others by allowing the machine, a laptop for example, to transmit a series of beeps through its speakers which contains the cleartext format of the link. Meanwhile, the receiving devices…

LG has teamed up with Harman-Kardon to come up with their new wireless headset dubbed as the LG Tone Infinim (HBS-900). The Tone Infinim dons a similar design as its predecessor, the LG Tone (HBS-700), albeit less sporty and more sophisticated. It also inherits the retractable wire scheme, allowing to users to hang the band on their neck and extend the cable when they're using it. LG claims that although the HBS-900 will work on any Android device, it’s best suited for use with upcoming LG G3 because they’ve added an extra feature called Answer Me+ which automatically terminates the…

A Thousand MMS Later

Last June 17, I was one of the very first few bloggers who posted the "Hello Garci" ring tones which featured the voices of GMA and Garcilliano. I even offered to send out the ring tones to visitors via MMS (of course, with a Smart Pasaload just to keep the cycle going). It's been over three weeks now and I still get requests for ringtones on a daily basis. I did not keep an exact count but I am sure it's well over a thousand MMS that have been sent over the weeks. Request for ring tones went as far…

There has been a steady stream of rumors hinting at the possibility that the successor of Apple’s plastic-backed handset may already be in the works. The most recent addition to the rumor mill is the leaked picture of a rear casing of what is believed to be the iPhone 6C which gives us a sneak peek of the alleged 4-inch handset’s posterior. Looking at the side-by-side image posted by Future Supplier at distance, there seems to be no significant change on the rumored iPhone 6C’s design. A closer look, however, reveals two minor design changes which include a redesigned speaker…

Make HTCSense work on all handsets, please?

So I lost my HTC HD7 last night at a restaurant. I'm a forgetful person and have lost a lot of gadgets thru the years but this one I didn't want to just let go. First, I know that the HD7 was just in my car or I (unknowingly) brought it to the dinner table in the restaurant. Since the phone wasn't in the car when I got back, the restaurant was the only remaining suspect. When I went back to ask the waiter, they said there was nothing left at my dinner table (which was among the outside tables).…

What are the odds of 3 DSL providers down?

Relevance: 22%      Posted on: September 26, 2006

Yup, all 3 of them are down. 1) PLDT myDSL is down -- no conneciton since 10PM last night. NO dial tone on the phone lines as well. 2) Smart Bro is down -- slower than a slug since last night. Only 3 out of 20 pings get a response. You're lucky if you could load Google's homepage. 3) Smart GPRS is down -- cannot connect to the network daw. Now, what are the odds of that? All other phone lines in the area not working as well. Thanks to Airborne Access, I think I'll be here at the Bluewave…

Huawei Outs Honor 7i, Swiveling Camera In Tow

Relevance: 21%      Posted on: August 21, 2015

The concept of having one rotating camera on a smartphone is nothing new in the business, but Huawei has tried a different approach on their latest mid-range smartphone – the Huawei Honor 7i. Instead of the whole top part rotating, like the one on the OPPO N1, only the actual 13-megapixel camera unit and its accompanying dual-tone LED flash swivel on the Honor 7i, allowing users to take selfies using the same rear shooter. Its rotating camera is not only thing that’s unique about the new Honor 7i, the placement of its fingerprint scanner is also quite a headscratcher. Rather…
