Fast 50 Magazine names Globe & Smart as Innovators

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: June 6, 2007

In a quick entry over at PTB, Globe Telecoms and Smart Communications were the only 2 companies included in the 6th Annual Fast 50. Globe Telecoms was cited for it's mobile wallet system, G-Cash, while Smart was heralded as the telecom in a sachet due to the success of the e-Load system. Interesting figures mentioned there includes Globe G-Cash generating USD$100 Million (~Php4.6 Billion?) in mobile transactions a day while Smart is selling USD$80 Million (Php3.68 Billion) of e-load credits monthly.

Moving Servers, again

Relevance: 74%      Posted on: July 7, 2007

I am, once again, moving servers. The AMD Opteron 246 I bought 8 months ago could not take the amount of load of all the blogs I run. Actually I think it's PinoyTopBlogs again that's the culprit. To save some money, I got a smallish and older server (AMD Athlon 64 3200+) to compliment the Opteron. Both servers are now running at tip top speeds and CPU usage is below 80% on average. Most of the other blogs have been moved last week but this blog is scheduled for today, having Gigabytes of pictures uploaded on the gallery makes it…

Google Servers Overloaded

Relevance: 62%      Posted on: May 18, 2008

Google needs to add a couple more thousand servers on its racks. Been getting a lot of these 502 Server Errors lately. This time, it's the Ad Manager I can't access for several hours now. Imagine if these crawls up into GMail or Google Search? 502 Service Temporarily Overloaded: Server congestion; too many connections; high traffic. Keep trying until the page loads. Actually, there's been several incidents when the Search service was down but it was for shorter periods (several minutes). There've been some isolated incidents before (like the time when several regions in Mindanao disconnected from Google and its…

Moving Servers Around

Relevance: 61%      Posted on: November 10, 2005

In the last couple of days, I've been moving my blog to different servers that we manage. This, after Marc's advise that it is good to be on an IP address no one else shares with you, especially if you get inbound links from them. I realized that a lot of our clients that link to my blog are also on the same server where my blog is hosted so the move will have some SEO benefits. Thus, I tried to move my server out of it. Apparently, I'm having a hard time viewing my blog after two migrations, primarily…

Relevance: 59%      Posted on: February 14, 2015

Sad news for gaming fans this season of hearts: After an 11-year operation in the country, the Philippine servers of popular MMORPG Ragnarok Online shall be closed on March 31st. In a statement published on Level-Up's Website, the pRO team said that it was a difficult decision to make, noting that they have made countless milestones and hurdled all obstacles since 2003. While it will be discontinued, pRO's players will be given a chance to migrate to a new server that will be  established in the International Ragnarok Online franchise a month after. Below is the statement of our friends from…

PRC Nursing Exam Results crash servers

Relevance: 58%      Posted on: August 26, 2007

Update: PRC Nursing Board Exam Results for November 2008. Copy latest PRC Board Nursing exam results from the website here. I've been struggling with several crashed servers early this evening from what could have been a massive amount of traffic coming in from search engines looking for the 2007 PRC Nursing Exams Results. Even blog tracking by PinoyTopBlogs caused my server to crash. I can only imagine the number of blogs being swarmed by nursing examinees looking for the results online. All that traffic combined being tracked by PTB killed mySQL and Apache instantly. I can't even revive it because…

Smart completes roll-out of 9,500 LTE base stations

Relevance: 57%      Posted on: July 19, 2012

Since we beta tested the LTE service of Smart from last year (it ended around March), I've been asked a lot of times when they will officially launch the service in the Philippines. There was lot of noise about it since last year leading to 1st quarter of this year and then there was silence. We were expecting that by June, Smart would have already launched its LTE service commercially and we'd actually be able to experience those blazing fast mobile internet speeds (I was getting as fast as 40Mbps on SpeedTest and up to 2MB/s on torrents). During the…

Smart Bro replaces Smart Wifi

Relevance: 54%      Posted on: April 26, 2006

Smart Communications thought their Smart Wifi brand is knee deep in the mud right now that the best thing to remedy the bad publicity is to re-name it. So, they came up with Smart Bro (is that a shortcut for broadband?) They did some clean-up and even remove pages from their official site which mentioned Smart Wifi. Too bad that page is already #1 on Google, Yahoo and MSN for the term "smart wifi". (I suppose my blog will take over that spot, eh?) Migs pointed out that that Smart Bro is also a browser and a few days after…
