Globe Telecoms has revealed a new subscription-based service for prepaid subscribers called Roam Surf which allows them to continue surfing the web using their Globe prepaid SIM card even when abroad. The Globe Roam Surf is available to all prepaid subscribers who enabled the International Roaming service (GROAM) at least 24-hours prior to departure. The service is available in over 50 countries around the world which is thanks, in large part, to various partner telcos in different countries. The new Globe Roam Surf service is available in three tiers; one day subscription (24 hours) will cost Php599, Php1,797 for three…

Unlimited Int’l Data Roaming with Globe

Relevance: 97%      Posted on: January 14, 2011

International data roaming has become one of the most dreaded activity when traveling abroad. I've been bitten with one for a smacking Php25,000 bill after an overnight stay in Singapore a couple of years back. And I only used up about 40+MB of bandwidth during that 24-hour stay. Since then, I have never attempted to activate data roaming when on trips. Looks like I'll be tempted again this time now that Globe and Bridge Alliance has partnered to offer Bridge DataRoamUnlimited. Rates are as follows: $10 for 24 hours $27 for 3 days $40 for 5 days That's already pretty…

Anyone noticed Sun domestic data roaming on Smart?

Relevance: 77%      Posted on: October 9, 2012

We received a couple of reports from Sun subscribers that they were able to connect to the Smart's 3G network and able to activate and use their mobile internet. One subscriber emailed telling us that they've been able to hook up to Smart's 3G and use mobile internet on their phone. Another one texted telling us the same but it seems the roaming is no longer working. It's possible Sun is doing a field test for domestic roaming with Smart the same way they did that voice/SMS roaming back in March.

Smart now offers Prepaid Data Roaming for Php500/day

Relevance: 72%      Posted on: October 3, 2014

Smart has just enabled international data roaming for prepaid subscribers with unlimited daily mobile internet access for only Php500 per day. It has taken a long time for Smart to offer this to 99% of its subscribers so we believe its prepaid subscribers will be glad to know they can use data romaing abroad. The prepaid data roaming is currently limited to a few countries: Hong Kong (Hutchison) Indonesia (Indosat) Japan (NTT DoCoMo) Macau (Hutchison) Malaysia (DiGi, CelCom) Singapore (Starhub) South Korea (KTF) Taiwan (FET) Thailand (True Move) Vietnam (Vinaphone) To activate prepaid data roaming: 1) Make sure to have…

Sun Cellular gets domestic roaming with Smart

Relevance: 67%      Posted on: March 13, 2012

We earlier reported that Sun Cellular was riding on Smart's network to expand its coverage in certain areas and we've also asked readers to confirm this. It looks like Sun has already verified this by connecting to Smart via domestic roaming. We're all familiar with international roaming and have the impression that roaming between networks is very expensive. But in this case, I believe Sun is getting a free ride on Smart's vast network (considering they both belong under the PLDT Group). TechLokal confirms this move by Sun (via Sun Cellular VP for CRM Reuben Pangan): We have expanded our…

Vodafone partners with Smart for $10/day data roaming

Relevance: 56%      Posted on: February 27, 2012

Our February 12 story regarding Vodafone Philippines setting up local operations might not hold water in a recent announcement by Smart about a roaming partnership. Apparently, Vodafone representatives were in the Philippines to Smart Smart executives on key services and practices: The training sessions, held from February 14 to 16, 2012, were conducted by Vodafone's online team, and had Smart's senior management and online customer management team, among others, as participants. The social media accounts of Vodafone Philippines on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube were created sometime in February 12, 2012. This coincide with the preparation of the training. So it…

AT&T Unite LTE Pocket WiFi while roaming in the US

Relevance: 53%      Posted on: January 11, 2014

Since I have a back to back event coverage here in the US (CES in Las Vegas and NAIAS in Detroit) my initial plan was to subscribe to the Globe-AT&T roaming promo which is $15 a day. However, I will be here for 10 days so that's going to be $150 at the very least. So I went to hunt for an alternative. When I was gadget shopping over at Fry's here in LV, I discovered this prepaid pocket WiFi from AT&T and asked about it. The LTE device costs $99, including the prepaid SIM card. I can then load…

Globe makes Zac Efron the 1st iPhone 5 subscriber

Relevance: 49%      Posted on: September 25, 2012

Last year, it was Pres. Noynoy Aquino who became the first Globe iPhone 4S subscriber. This year, the first official iPhone 5 from Globe goes to Zac Efron. This is the first time that Globe has made any promotional move on an iPhone before they've officially announced it. Apple is usually very secretive about announcing telco/country availability. Guess what just came in? A brand new iPhone 5 exclusively for ZAC EFRON as he is welcomed to the Phils by @enjoyglobe twitter.com/PublicityAsia/…— Joyce A. Ramirez (@PublicityAsia) September 25, 2012 Apparently, Zac is heading to Manila for the Penshoppe's FanCon 2012 on

An old friend sent me an email about his problems with Globe' Kababayan SIM card when using it in Singapore. He tried to reach Globe CSR to no avail and requested if I could publish his letter here.
