The Hunt for a Globe HSPA+ Cell Site

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: August 13, 2011

After getting that list of Globe HSPA+ sites within Metro Manila, I took the task of finding out one and do some tests of my own. The target location is Brgy. San Isidro in Makati. The idea was to circle around San Isidro and take sample speed tests and then move towards the area where the HSPA+ is supposed to be and do the final one. This will give us an idea what the real-world coverage of the HSPA+ sites and how fast can you get when you're within coverage. We used a regular Globe Prepaid SIM running on SuperSurf…

Anyone here uses Globe Tracker?

Relevance: 92%      Posted on: January 16, 2012

My recent story about locating a lost phone via cell triangulation drew a few questions about its accuracy, including some privacy concerns. This reminds me of the service offered by a local telco for tracking a handset called Globe Tracker. Globe Tracker has been around for a couple of years now but it's pretty useful in some cases. Basically, what it does is provide an estimate of the location of an active phone number and its user. The Tracker website also provides a map for reference. It's not very accurate but can be as close as a few meters of…

With the number of 3D TVs and super-thin LED TVs being showcased at CES, the one that got my curiosity is the Cell TV that Toshiba unveiled. Sizes of the Cell TVs come in two series:…

Speedtest: Location-based bandwidth meter

Relevance: 73%      Posted on: March 12, 2007

This is not just any other bandwidth meter around. It tracks your location, including your ISP and upstream provider. You choose which server to connect when measuring your bandwidth. Here's my results for my PLDT myDSL 1995. It's supposed to be rated at 1.2Mbps. The connecting server I used was Bayantel. The system also saves a whole bunch of data from other users so you can dig them up, get the average for your area and even compare the performances of other ISPs. This one screen shot report I got the the Metro Manila area: Interestingly, Destiny is topping the…

Complete List of Globe WiZ Hotspots

When the guys from Globe Innove gave me a free WiZ (Wireless Internet Zone) account, I retorted that they didn't have any list of hotspots posted on their website (not even on that login page you see when you're hooked up with one of them wifi access points). They shot me an email with the complete list below. (This one hasn't been updated since December 10, 2005!) So here's a copy of the list for those searching online. ABS-CBN The Loop Windows Café at The Loop ABS-CBN ACC Activity Center Ateneo at Rockwell Center Basti's Brew at Victoria Plaza BigBucks…
