Globe Visibility now available commercially.

Ahh yes, Globe Visibility, this is what I was talking to them guys many times — give PLDT WeRoam some competiton. This was just published at Inq7.net: Globe offers wireless 3G Internet service for mobile users.

With a monthly subscription fee of 2,000 pesos, the service includes a notebook PC card integrated with a subscriber identity module (SIM) also used for mobile phones.

The SIM itself can only access Internet and data, not voice as with SIMs of mobile phones.

The service taps into available 3G cell sites of Globe, particularly to cell sites enhanced with HSDPA (high-speed downlink packet access) to be able to connect to the Internet. It can provide bandwidth of up to 1.4 megabits per second (Mbps).

Yup, that’s 1.4Mbps via HSDPA which may only be available within Metro Manila. Their GPRS connection only tops at 50Kbps though.

So, I guess it’s time to talk to their Visibility group and maybe get some of us some trial account. :D

Speak and Surf is Globe’s answer to Smart Bro?

While we were on the topic of broadband, I asked more about Globe’s Speak and Surf and found out some really juicy details about their new product. I believe this was also mentioned during our last meet-up when the Globe Team did their presentation.

  • Out of the box solution for broadband internet and landline telephone.
  • Use the wireless internet and the phone at the same time.
  • Connects to Globe cellsites using a wireless modem/router via CDMA technology.
  • Up to 256Kbps connection speed.
  • Costs Php995 per month including the phone line.
  • Free text messenging within the network (500 SMS per month unlimited for the first 3 months)

Globe Speak and Surf

I was told that this hasn’t been rolled out commercially but they’ve been doing rounds door-to-door. We should be seeing print ads and TV commercials by October. Hopefully, this would answer the growing complaints for a Smart Bro alternative.

Monthly rate is exclusive of handset rental fee which you can choose from any of these handset rental payment options:

1. Upfront payment of P7,200
2. P300/month for 24 months
For inquiries and applications, please call (02) 919-8888 for Luzon, (032) 410-8888 for Visayas and Mindanao or 171 Toll-free from any Globelines landline or payphone. or visit your nearest Globelines payments & services center now.

Smart WiFi launched

smart wifiLaunched just yesterday, Smart WiFi is a new broadband internet service which allows users to get connected wirelessly thru Smart’s cell sites. The only thing you need is an outdoor antenna to serve as transceiver on any of Smart’s hundreds of cell sites nationwide.

Maximum bandwidth is up to around 128kbps and promo price starts at Php788/month. It’s an easy and affordable alternative if you don’t have phone lines in the neighborhood. This is gonna be a big hit once they find a way to bring access down to handhelds and portable devices (read: Tungsten T5 & Life Drive).
