Sun intros 1-Peso International SMS

This was first explained to me by a friend who got a new Sun Cellular SIM. Then, last week I got to talk to a marketing manager from Sun who lent me a phone with their new Sun Cellular International SIM in it and adds that their international SMS is only Php1.

How to activate International Globe Roaming

Activate Globe Mobile Prepaid for International Roaming

To activate, just text GROAM ON [Start Date] [Number of Days] and send to 2884.

As an example, if you want to activate your Globe roaming from June 1 to June 15, 2008, that will be 15 days. So, what you do is text GROAM ON 06/01/2008 15 send to 2884.

Minimum balance of Php100 is required in order to enable activation for Globe International Roaming. You also need to have at least Php100 on your daily balance in order for the service to continue working.

Request for roaming activation may be done between 7 days before date of departure to at least 1 hour before departure. Maximum length for activation is 180 days.

For Postpaid Subscribers:

Postpaid subscribers can call 211 (toll-free) via mobile. For help, call +632.7301212 from your mobile (toll-free).

How to Make Calls while roaming:

* Postpaid subscribers

Simply dial “+” + country code + area code (or operator code) + phone number.
Example: +6327301000 if landline or +639178000000 if mobile and press SEND.

* Prepaid clients

Dial *131* + country code + area code (or operator code) + phone number + # sign.
e.g. *131*6327301000# if landline or *131*639178000000# if mobile and press SEND.

How to Send Messages while roaming:

Use the International Number format when sending a message to someone: “+” + country code + mobile access number + mobile number.

Example: +639xxxxxxxxxx, and press SEND.

New Globe Visibility Plans: 799, 999 and 1499

Bumped into someone from Globe this evening and she quickly tipped me about their new Globe Visibility plans – Plan 799, Plan 999, and Plan 1499. Still postpaid but they’ve made it more affordable, obviously following the move by the competition.

Scrimping on Internet

Since I don’t have unlimited access to wifi internet in my hotel room, I am forced to conserve whatever time I get from the limited and costly access I get (~Php360/hour). And to think I thought Airborne Access and Globe WiZ’s Php100/hour is already very expensive.

Ones is constantly challeged to maximize the usage.

  • Check emails and reply to very urgent ones.
  • Download all RSS feeds into local client, FeedDemon.
  • Opening 3 dozen pages for reading later on when disconnected.
  • Compose blog entries offline (via Notepad) and publish them once connected.
  • Type faster!

I just learned from talking with guys here that you can actually buy pre-paid SIM cards and use it access the internet. I didn’t think of doing that before. I was actually expecting to at least be able to access Mobile Gmail via my phone on Smart International Roaming. Another lesson learned here…

Years ago, when I was still enjoying dial-up connections, there was this software that enables you to download entire websites into your hard drive and then brose it offline. Are those kind of services still available now?
