A Thousand MMS Later

Relevance: 53%      Posted on: July 7, 2005

Last June 17, I was one of the very first few bloggers who posted the "Hello Garci" ring tones which featured the voices of GMA and Garcilliano. I even offered to send out the ring tones to visitors via MMS (of course, with a Smart Pasaload just to keep the cycle going). It's been over three weeks now and I still get requests for ringtones on a daily basis. I did not keep an exact count but I am sure it's well over a thousand MMS that have been sent over the weeks. Request for ring tones went as far…

Canon has recently released an incremental firmware update for both of their high-end PowerShot S-series cameras namely the S100 and its successor S110. The firmware update for both snappers bears the same version name (Version and is said to fix the issue regarding the cameras’ control ring functions. The update also fixes the WiFi connectivity issues on the PowerShot S110 when it’s synced with an iOS device. • Fixes a phenomenon in which the focal length may not change when the control ring’s function is to control the step zoom, and the control ring is turned slowly, click-by-click. (Both…

This one's for all those mobile users who loves taking pictures of themselves using their camera phone -- a set of lenses fit for your phone camera. The set includes a wide angle lens, a telephoto lens and a macro for your mobile phone, iPhone included. The lens is mounted via magnet so if your phone's camera is already surrounded by a metallic casing, you're all set. If not, there's an included metal ring which you attach around the phone's camera using an adhesive. It looks ugly with the iPhone though (you need to permanently attach the metal ring around…

Just before IFA officially opened, Acer made a huge announcement with the Liquid S2 that is capable on recording 4K (quad-1080p) video, a first in any smartphone. We checked out the Acer Liquid S2 at the Acer Booth in Messe Berlin. The device feels heavy and large on the hands but still comfortable to hold with one-handed operation. The 13MP backside illuminated sensor at the back is flanked by a ring flash (that's 4 LED flash lined around the camera lens) which will be of good use for low-light photography or macro shots. That's the translucent circular band around the…

5 Ways to Kill your RSS Subscribers

Relevance: 28%      Posted on: February 15, 2007

Last night, I was adding dozens of new feeds into my FeedDemon and found myself deleting a couple old ones too. Those are blogs which I've subscribed to for months now but seems like a ghost town already. If you got a Feedburner chicklet that displays your RSS count, you'd see that number dwindle because of any of these reasons: Erratic post schedules. One week, you're on a roll; then, the following week, you got one two-liner post. (You might be mistaken for #2) You stop blogging or updating your blog for weeks on end. If your subscribers think the…

Relevance: 26%      Posted on: June 27, 2005

As of this morning, this blog has reached 1,091,094 hits for the month of June. That's from 36,182 unique visitors contributing over 263,070 pageviews. A sizable amount of those came from people downloading Hello Garci ringtones and the complete Arroyo-Garcilliano recordings. A total of 170,634 ring tones have been downloaded from this blog alone, and if included my stats in their interview (350,000 downloads), that's almost 50% of the vast majority of downloads. A rough estimate of the total number ring tones sent over MMS is about 175. Had I not asked for a small contribution to cover…

Relevance: 24%      Posted on: October 29, 2013

With the rapid growth of camera-equipped smartphones in the market, camera manufacturers have been pushed to bring their “A” game for their products to stay relevant in this digital age. That’s exactly what Olympus did when they unveiled their latest high-end point-and-shoot camera, the Stylus 1. Although a direct descendant of the Stylus XZ-2, the Stylus 1’s physique is more akin to the fairly new Olympus OM-D E-M1 than to its predecessor. But more than just the form factor, the new enthusiast camera is also peppered with buttons and knobs, including control ring around the lens, for seamless customizations on…
