Sapido 3G Router vs. SmartBro Share-It

Relevance: 86%      Posted on: August 22, 2010

Recently bought this Sapido Mobile 3G Router so I can compare it with the SmartBro Share-It WiFi router I use in my car and see which one makes for a better mobile internet set-up. For about a year now since I got the SmartBro Share-It, it has found its place inside my car wherever I go around the city. I tried bringing it up north on long trips and it was still working in Bulacan and down south, as far as Sta. Rosa. We even manage to make it work until the end of the South Luzon Expressway. The problem…

Buffalo AirStation Wireless-N 300Mbps Router

Relevance: 81%      Posted on: November 30, 2009

This is my 3rd wireless router this year. The first one (LinkSys) broke down earlier this year due to some problems to the transmitter restarting ever minute or so. I replaced it with a Belkin and that one died on me last week. Prices of Wireless-N routers have gone down significantly in the past months so I checked out alternatives. No more Belkins and LinkSys for me and when I saw the Buffalo AirStation retailing for just Php3,200, I thought I'd give it a try. The Buffalo Wireless-N Nfiniti Broadband Router and Access Point promises up to 300Mbps network speeds…

Edimax 3G Broadband Router

Relevance: 77%      Posted on: May 11, 2009

Here's another 3G broadband router sent in for review -- the Edimax 802.11b/g 3G Router. It's like your regular DSL router with additional USB ports to hook in a 3G modem and also acts as a Printer server. If you have a regular DSL at home hooked up to a wireless router, you can use your SmartBro, Globe Visibility or Sun Wireless Broadband as alternative source of internet connection when the DSL goes down. Not sure how much this one costs but it's being sold at eBay.ph for Php3,900. I'll bring this on the road and set it up inside…

Huawei B683 Wireless 3G HSPA+ Router

Relevance: 75%      Posted on: July 13, 2012

For a couple of months now, I've been completely dependent on pocket WiFis (Huawei E587 & ZTE MF80) for my internet access in my new condo. Then, this Huawei B683 arrived and saved the day. The B683 is basically a 3G router, much like the SmartBro Share-it from years ago. Prior to this, I used a similar set-up using a Sapido router hooked up to a Rocket Plug-it giving me up to HSPA+ connectivity. The Huawei B683 removes the hassle of plugging a USB dongle and replaces it with a built-in SIM card slot. Also, when I'm at home, I…

Relevance: 70%      Posted on: November 23, 2012

Asus Philippines announces their latest high-end router offering, the RT-AC66U. But don’t for one second think that this router is just your average networking device as this bad boy enables you to do more than connect multiple devices. The first thing you need to know about it is that it’s an 802.11ac dual-band router. For the uninitiated, these routers are capable of insane speeds of up to 1.3GB/S (three-stream). To put thing in perspective, your current Wireless-N routers has a cap of 450Mbps (three-stream) while the 802.11ac can outdo that by three folds. And because of its blazing fast transfer…

SmartBro’s fixed wireless is now PLDT MyBro

Relevance: 70%      Posted on: June 27, 2012

Smart and PLDT are silently re-aligning their broadband services. The fixed wireless service which is the original brand for SmartBro (previously Smart WiFi) is now under a new label called PLDT myBro. That means SmartBro will now only have the mobile wireless services (Plug-It, Pocket WiFi, Rocket, Rocket WiFi, etc.). This puts myBro right along the PLDT's DSL services (PLDT myDSL) line-up, thus the naming convention. Based on the release we've seen and the TV commercial, PLDT is positioning myBro to students. There are two plans -- MyBro 799 with unlimited internet at 512Kbps for Php799/month and MyBro 999 which…

SmartBro Share It was first introduced last March, a 3G WiFi router that can share internet up to 5 devices. The Share It subscription costs Php999 a month for only 90 hours of free 3G internet. Smart has now upgraded that to unlimited with a 24-month 12-month lock-in contract, plus a Php2,500 one-time fee for the 3G router. This is looking to be a good offer since it is possible to get that SIM card and put it in your phone for unlimited 3G. It's also possible to use it with a 3G USB dongle so you can take it…
