Ainol Novo 7 Aurora Review

We did a review of the Aurora’s sibling a couple of months ago, the Ainol Paladin and that got a lot of attention for being the first one to have ICS pre-installed out of the box. Not to mention the really affordable price. The Ainol Aurora brings this up a notch by offering a sleeker design and better hardware configuration. Check out our full review of the Ainol Novo 7 Aurora after the jump.

Kindle Fire on Ice Cream Sandwich Review

Getting bored in the wee hours of the morning usually results to doing something crazy that you’ll eventually regret the next day. The last time I experienced this resulted to having my wife’s rooted Kindle Fire virtually bricked. Luckily a friend saved the day and flashed the Kindle Fire back to life.

Sony Xperia S Review

So the Sony and Ericsson affair has finally ended and the mobile tech world is waiting for Sony to reveal its pure blood offspring the way they would for the next pope. What Sony has released from its labs is far from anything that resembles a PlayStation-loving teenager. Carrying a 4.3” HD screen under a piano black glass that is mounted on a poly-carbonate black-matte body, they have sent out a man in an Armani suit. Check out our full review of the Sony Xperia S after the jump.

Nokia N9 Review

The Nokia N9 is the most interesting phone that came out of the Finnish company in years. Not only because it comes with totally different OS but also because it represents what Nokia could have become if it had done this strategy way earlier. Check out our full review of the Nokia N9 after the jump.

Welcome Notes to Visitors from Mel & Joey

I’d like to welcome my new visitors and readers coming from MSN Live, Yahoo! & Google looking for my blog after watching the feature at Mel & Joey last night. I was surprised that for a 2-hour footage, they managed to squeeze it in a 2-minute feature.

Just to guide our new visitors, I’d like to point you out to some readings. I wasn’t really anticipating to be inundated with emails so apologies if I didn’t come up with a welcome page to guide all of you along and answer the more obvious questions beforehand.

Pinoy Blogger leads WeblogInc’s PSPFanboy

When I first heard of the news that one of WeblogInc’s high-traffic blogs, JoyStiq, was giving birth to two other blogs PSP Fanboy & Xbox 360 Fanboy, I checked it out to see how it looks. What caught my attention was the top blog posts by the respective bloggers and found one Rafael Espiritu. Very Filipino name, huh? I searched Google to figure out more about him but found none so I shrugged it off.

But when Pau mentioned that his co-blogger over at Cheap&Tiny is also blogging at PSP Fanboy, only then did I recognize that it was Raffy. His blog post here confirms it all.

Anyway, good news for a fellow pinoy problogger and props to Raffy. I’m sure he’s very happy getting that much-coveted $500/month (125 posts) contract over at WeblogsInc. I hope it’s even higher, but $500 will do just fine. :)

Blogs and Online Newspapers have similar readership density?

Was on a meeting with lawyer and Inq7.net columnist Rowena “Bing” Guanzon this afternoon on setting up her new blog and familiarizing her with WordPress, when we discussed something about the density of newspaper readership.

She opined that people seem to get bored with Philippine politics and mentioned that most of her columns in Inq7.net are at the end of the top 10 most read articles. I agreed adding that even political blogs are sharing the same dip in traffic compared to entertainment/showbiz-related blog. I showed her some of the data from PinoyTopBlogs and the discussion we had on this blog and on Divergent Poles.

When I got back home, I checked INQ7′s 10 most-read columns from Nov. 6-12 :

Listed below are the 10 most-read column articles on INQ7.net for the week of November 6 to November 12, 2005, based on server traffic statistics.

1. After Brussels win, Buboy awaits 3rd baby’s birth (Dollywood, November 09, 2005)

2. Jericho says ‘Panday’ is ‘breathtaking’ (Dollywood, November 08, 2005)

3. Daniel Radcliffe and a boy named Harry grow up (Only in Hollywood, November 05, 2005)

4. PBA surprise: Bald, and proud of it (In Huddle, November 08, 2005)

5. Is INC coddling a criminal? (On Target, November 07, 2005)

6. Haste makes humiliation (Editorial, November 09, 2005)

7. Foul play (Editorial, November 11, 2005)

8. Staying at the top (Viewfinder, November 09, 2005)

9. Back in business (Editorial, November 10, 2005)

10. Prejudice (Editorial, November 08, 2005)

The top 3 columns are all entertainment articles followed by a sports article while the rest are editorial and political commentaries.

April 11, 2005

April is Tax Month.

To those who are regular employees, this may be a non-issue. But for a guy like me who is not a salaried worker, it’s a totally different animal altogether.

Tax computations are different and remittances to the BIR are staggering. Yes, one has (others say this is optional) to file for his personal income tax return. And after computations, I’m sure you’ll feel the very heavy burden of paying (at most 34%) your income for your annual tax obligations. Darn, that’s a lot! You could even buy a 2nd hand car with that!

We didn’t really feel how it was before when we get our monthly salaries because the company already withholds the entire amount and what we get in our paycheck (read: take home) is the net amount (less taxes and contributions). A couple fo years ago, my paycheck was about 5 grand less than my actual salary. That’s at least Php60,000 at the end of the year — all of which goes to GMA and all the crocs in Congress. Darn, I’m paying for their cars and foreign trips, aren’t I?

Oh well, such is life.
