ABS CBN buys into Multiply

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: November 18, 2008

In a surprise move, TV giant ABS-CBN has announced yesterday that it has bought a minority stake into social networking site, Multiply. The purchase was for 5% of Multiply which costs $5 million or close to Php250 million. A year ago this month, ABS-CBN first went into an advertising deal with Multiply. It looks like that deal got a lot of traction and the media giant saw great potential. ABS-CBN will continue to monetize the social networking site thru traditional CPM-based advertising and offering mobile service. They've even added a clause that will enable ABS-CBN to buy as much as…

Multiply sells iPhone 5 at Php3,000 off!

Relevance: 99%      Posted on: September 27, 2012

Multiply is joining the bandwagon by bringing in gray market units of the iPhone 5. The prices are almost the same level as the ones in Greenhills and in other online stores but Multiply is offering a Php3,000 discount to attract more buyers. The iPhone 5 16GB is selling at Php47,000, the 32GB at Php54,500 and the 64GB at Php58,500. Take Php3,000 of that price and that's the best you can get. That makes the 16GB at Php44k, the 32Gb at Php51.5k and the 64Gb at Php55.5k. Multiply also did this with the iPad 3 before it was officially released…

Multiply scouting for GM in the Philippines

Relevance: 94%      Posted on: October 14, 2010

Multiply Inc. is scouting for a GM (General Manager) for the Philippines, according to a source, and is also looking to form a dedicated group to run local operations. Multiply Philippines opened up shop in June 2008, about 6 months after local TV network ABS-CBN bought a 5% stake into the company. The partnership with ABS-CBN Interactive involves a multi-year advertising and revenue-sharing agreement. It's possible that agreement has now expired and Multiply wants to get a dedicated team to run local operations. Based on the requirements, it looks like this is the first time Multiply is getting an official…

Rumor: Multiply to split up from ABS-CBN?

Relevance: 93%      Posted on: July 8, 2010

Ok, this one is just a rumor but I am doing some follow-ups based on a tip from a trusted source. According to my source, ABS-CBN might split ways with Multiply real soon. In November 2008, ABS-CBN bought into Multiply with a 5% stake of the blogging/social network site for a reported US$5 million (~Php250 Million). ABS-CBN was already selling local ads for Multiply then and this was strengthened by adding more Multiply sites for every show and TV program the network giant airs. The move was to help increase over-all site traffic and market share in the Philippines. However,…

Buying a Sony PS Vita via the Multiply Marketplace

Relevance: 88%      Posted on: March 12, 2012

Sometime last month, the folks from Multiply gave me access to the YugaTech account that was earlier registered by someone else and used as a gadget store. I thought it was also time for me to set up a store there for my used gadgets. A few weeks ago, they've also asked me to hold a give-away to my readers where we will give away Php5,000 worth of shopping money on Multiply. But before we do that, I had to check out and try the Marketplace myself. So, I scouted for a number of gadget stores on Multiply and looked…

The real deal behind Multiply and ABS-CBN

Relevance: 83%      Posted on: November 10, 2007

The sphere has been abuzz in the last couple of days about this supposed ad deal between Multiply and ABS-CBN Interactive. But what's is this partnership really all about? Let drill down a little about this deal. There have been several big-time ad deals between social networking sites and advertising giants before. Google had an ad deal with MySpace early on in the tune of $900 Million, spanning between 2006 to 2010. Google struck a deal with Friendster later on for a yet undisclosed amount. Then, we all know why Microsoft bought $240 Million of Facebook -- that is to…

Get Php3,000 off on Multiply Discounted Deals

Relevance: 78%      Posted on: December 29, 2012

I've been shopping at Multiply's Discounted Deals microsite for a couple of weeks now after getting an email alert that they're offering Php3,000 off of regular priced items. The Multiply Shop is like a deals site where they offer percentage discount or flat price offers. So far, what I've been using is the Php3,000 off discount voucher. The first time I discovered it was back in December 17 when they placed a Php3,000 discount against a Cnaon S110 which is selling for Php16k+. Paid via Paypal the net amount of Php13k+ but turns out there was a delay as the…

Google to enter Paid Reviews thru AdSense?

Relevance: 76%      Posted on: January 29, 2008

Nah, I don't believe it. Google is against paid reviews, right? Shoemoney got an emailing that Google is doing a beta test for paid reviews via AdSense. We've witness the crusade against paid reviews by Google in the last couple of months. Why now would it enter into paid reviews itself? Google Search Quality Engineer Matt Cutts explained this before. Shoemoney thinks the idea might make sense: Publishers - Google already has a amazingly huge database of publishers. Advertisers - Nobody has no online advertisers then Google AND now they they have taped into the news, magazine and radio network…
