Photography: Ateneo vs. La Salle

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: November 6, 2007

Go to watch the V League games between Ateneo and La Salle yesterday evening. It's like the PBL for womens' volleyball. Was able to capture some nice shots I'd like to share. Photos taken using my Canon Rebel XT (350D) with Sigma APO 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro. I rarely use this lens. Last time I pulled it out of the bag was during my trip to the Singapore Zoo. Sadly enough, Ateneo lost the game to La Salle, 0-3. Maybe next time.

We wrote about the plan of De La Salle to offer Samsung Galaxy Tabs to their students last July (as per our discussion with local reps of Sybase). Today, Samsung made it official and reveals La Salle Greenhills will provide their students with Galaxy Tab 8.9. La Salle Green Hills plans to deploy initial 500 of the new Galaxy Tab 8.9 devices to its honors class students. The pilot phase of the project will commence with the start of the second trimester of the 2011-12 school year in September this year. La Salle Green Hills expects to roll out the…

Sat down with the rep of Sybase this afternoon and talked about their enterprise and mobile solutions. The person then mentioned they're doing a tablet project with Samsung to deliver tablet solution for La Salle's grade school students. I'm also set to guest on News to Go with Howie Severino tomorrow morning to do a tablet round-up (Playbook, Transformer, Iconia, iPad, Streak, Galaxy Tab in tow) after they feature Meridian College using Apple iPads for all their students to use in the classroom. Here's what I got form their FB page though: We're extremely happy to announce for the pioneering…

Getting a credit card without applying for one?

Relevance: 56%      Posted on: November 2, 2006

I've been on and off the phone with one of my credit card reps and they've been calling me for overdue payments since 3 weeks ago. So, ok, sometimes when I'm too harassed I forget which card I paid online so it has happened on several occasion that I double pay (there was one time I paid Citibank 20k for a Php600 bill) some cards and not pay another card. But this one is a little strange to me -- I got a replacement card for an old Metrobank Value credit card. Then a week later, I also got another…

Smart testing Mobile Credit Card Reader

During Smart's sale event last week-end, the company tested a new mobile credit card reader. This allows merchants to allow credit card payments via a smartphone. The smartphone (the photo shows an Android handset from HTC) serves as a modem for the card reader. The system makes it more affordable for merchants to charge customers using MasterCard. The solution looks like it's still in testing phase so we're not sure when it will become available for merchants to use.

The Web 2.0 Calling Card

Relevance: 50%      Posted on: September 5, 2006

I got my kick-ass Web 2.0 calling card yesterday. Gail made it for me (thanks Gail!) and I was happy to treat her to a Jollibee meal (hehehe). This one's inspired by the Web 2.0 Logo generator: I'll get my second design printed when I get back.

MasterCard has recently unveiled in Singapore its next generation of payment cards that features an embedded LCD display and touch-sensitive buttons. The MasterCard Display Card looks and almost functions like a regular credit, debit, or ATM card but with an LCD display and touch-sensitive buttons. This allows the cardholder to generate a One-Time Password (OTP) as an authentication security measure without having to use a separate authentication token or device. "The innovative 2-in-1 device, which combines the functionality of a standard payment card with a state-of-the-art security token, currently reflects the customer's OTP. In future, this card could incorporate additional…

Lexar’s intros 3333x CFast 2.0 card, touts SSD speed

Lexar has recently stripped SanDisk off the “World’s Fastest Card” title when they unveiled the 256GB Professional 3333x CFast 2.0 CompactFlash card. The company’s new CFast 2.0 card tops the charts with its insane 500MB/s transfer rate which is significantly better than the SanDisk 120GB Extreme Pro CFast 2.0 CompactFlash card that held the title for a short period of time. Sadly, just like SanDisk’s CFast 2.0 card, the new Lexar’s new VPG-65 certified CF card is also not backwards-compatible with previous CompactFlash slots. So unless you wield an Arri Amira, we really can’t take advantage of the Professional 3333X’s…

For over two years now, Ikobo has been a regular advertiser in this blog. Though I've never used them as a remittance service, I've heard from fellow bloggers that they offer one of the more convenient ways to process transactions -- via an int'l ATM debit card. Here are some of the things you'll need to know about Ikobo Money Transfer service: The Visa Debit card is for electronic use only. It may be used on any merchant that accepts Visa. You get the Ikobo Visa prepaid card the first time you receive money. Subsequent remittances goes thru there. You…
