Pre-orders for SGS4 from Smart to start tomorrow

Smart Communications Philippines announced that they’ll start taking pre-orders for the Samsung Galaxy S4 beginning tomorrow, April 27. The flagship handset will typically be offered under Smart’s UnliData Plan 2000 with a 30-month lock-in period, but early adopters can get it for less.

Globe confirms free unlimited LTE on iPhone 5

Globe Telecom has finally confirmed that all iPhone 5 postpaid subscribers will get access to their LTE network at no additional charge. This means that if you are currently on a MySuperSurf data plan, you can get LTE for free.

Globe mulls over LTE for Mobile Broadband

Globe WiMax Internet is here!

Just got an SMS confirmation from Globe that they’ve already rolled out and servicing customers on their WiMax network. I’m still getting the details but the Inquirer ran the story last night that it will be 512Kbps at Php799 per month. This service will certainly be competing against Smart Bro’s Fixed Wireless offering.

GeoEye takes more Google Satellite Images

When I bumped into one of the Google Product Managers for SEA, I asked him why the Philippines (and the rest of South East Asia) doesn’t have enough hi-res imagery on Google Maps, he quips it takes time to gather all of these data. The recent GeoEye-Google partnership seems it will come sooner than later.

Review: Nokia N78

Nokia announced the N78 last February 2008 along with two other new phone models — the Nokia 6220 classic and the Nokia N96. It’s not yet available in the Philippines though I got a first hand review unit which I’ve been tinkering with for over two weeks now.
