Pinoy Top Blogs 1st Anniversary

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: July 15, 2006

Today is the 1st year anniversary of the Pinoy Top Blogs Project. The very first post about it is here. The site was originally hosted here as a subdomain until Andre of Enthropia donated the domains to me a few months later. The old site now hosts a blog directory called "Philippines Best of Blogs". Here are some of the entries that discussed about the project at that time: Pinoy Top Blogs Explained What Constitutes a Blog? Dynamics of Blog Traffic in Top Pinoy Blogs Blog Ranks are Hot This was also the time when Milky Soft sent in his…

Say Alonzo on Pinoy Big Brother

Relevance: 93%      Posted on: August 22, 2005

Last night while visiting a friend, I was surprised to hear the name "Say" as one of the housemates on Pinoy Big Brother. It immediately caught my attention and my eyes were glued to the TV for the next 8 to 10 minutes. I wasn't really interested in Pinoy Big Brothers (PBB) even with much of the hype and buzz going around. (I seldom watch TV, much more local channels.) But Say (or Sheryll Ann Alonzo Yutadco?) is there and that got me interested to the show. She's one of the (former) gals in the office. One of the prettier…

Totally iTunes for Pinoy?

Relevance: 92%      Posted on: March 1, 2007

Now, this is what I'd call purely Pinoy creativity. *heh* NoypiTunes is your iTunes for the Filipino mobile phone users. noypiTunes.com lets you personalize your mobile phone for All-Pinoy tones, images, logos and other content. Here you'll find a wide collection of top-rated homegrown music from artists like Bamboo, True Faith, and from Pinoy master rapper Francis M, downloadable as ringtones to US mobile phones. You can avail of download packages and enjoy four polyphonic ringtones for the price of one. The problem here is that the branding is just too close to Apple's iTunes that I am seeing C&D…

Friendster Philippines is gunning for a World Record for the Biggest Eyeball ever -- an attempt to make the definitive statement that the Philippines is still Friendster Capital of the world. With already 21,000 Friendster Fans logging in, the event could be on its way to set the world record for the largest gathering of members from a social networking community. Set to happen this August 15, 2009 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall, the EB will include live bands by Rico Blanco, Callalily, 6 Cycle Mind, Imago, Pedicab, Paraluman. See more info on the event page here.

Pinoy Podcasts

Relevance: 90%      Posted on: October 14, 2005

Been listening to several podcasts by Filipinos both from here and abroad. Inq7.net featured most of them in a recent article here, "Filipino life, according to Pinoy podcasters". The ones I've listened to are Pinoy Podcasts and PutangInaMo.com. Inq7.net missed Live@USA.PH, which in my opinion, is among the best podcast by Filipinos out there. Oh, Mike Abundo also has one as well. Podcasting is nice, if you have the time. It requires a little bit more of an effort especially if there's more than one of you in the podcast. In any case, it adds value and stickiness to your…

Pinoy Top Blogs Reloaded

Relevance: 88%      Posted on: October 7, 2005

Thanks to the guys at Evo-Dev for donating evoTopSites Pro (a $77 value) for the Pinoy Top Blogs Project. We're now running at full speed and the SQL caching is doing a perfect job in reducing load and resources of the server. *woohoo* I'd also like to thank Andre of mobileaddicts.com for donating all the CNO (.com, .net and .org) domains for Pinoy.Top.Blogs.

Google promotes Pinoy porn?

Relevance: 88%      Posted on: October 13, 2005

Just saw one of the ads from Google AdSense promoting Filipino porn? Was a bit shocked that Google would allow advertising about pornography thru AdWords. I took a screenshot of the ad link units here. The ads will show if you go to one specific post I made here about Say Alonzo on Pinoy Big Brother. Just keep on refreshing the page and maybe you might see it as well. However, when you click on the link, you will get this message "Sorry! We couldn't find any ads related to your topic. Please enter another topic below." At least, there…

Traffic Trends over Pinoy Big Brother

Relevance: 86%      Posted on: October 26, 2005

Traffic trends over the past couple of days have been very favorable to blogs that have dedicated a sizable amount of their content to the latest television reality TV show of ABS CBN, the Pinoy Big Brother. Those that came into the scene earlier on and have been providing original content are the ones that get the most number of exposures. Marc posted a great topic about the search trends and relevance over at Pinoy.Tech.Blog. I am not a real fan of PBB, except of course for my personal preference with Say as indicated by 23,000+ pageview post about her…

Brand New Pinoy Top Blogs Launched

Relevance: 86%      Posted on: March 21, 2008

The very long wait is over. A brand new Pinoy Top Blogs has just been re-launched, with entirely new code-base and design. All previous accounts have been imported. All you need is to get the new tracking code. Check it out here! It was about 6 months ago that I let go of the project and handed it over to the guys at Enthropia, Inc., who originally developed the top lists. The last 6 months since then was spent re-coding everything from the ground up and doing a much better design. Congrats to the guys at Enthropia for getting this…

What makes it proudly Pinoy?

Relevance: 83%      Posted on: August 24, 2006

This is one of the questions that's open for debate and I'd like to solicit some inputs from everyone reading here. What makes a blog Pinoy? What makes a start-up company proudly Filipino? What makes a service trully Filipino. Here are some classic cases we sometimes see around: 1) A Blog Network owned by a group of Australians, Americans and Canadians hire Filipino writers to write for their blog. Is that blog a Pinoy blog? 2) A British guy heads to the Philippines, hires some kick-ass developers, goes to France to open his office and manages the team remotely to…
