Google hearts Sicko and Michael Moore

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: July 3, 2007

Okay, the title's totally opposite. Google's feeling the heat over that bog post made about Michael Moore's latest documentary, Sicko. Due to overwhelming curiosity, I downloaded the movie from the Pirate Bay. The meat of it all was that the entire issue was muddled with a plug on AdWords. All that Google weighing in on the discussion about the health care industry was all put into plain words - advertise with us! *very sneaky* To understand what this is all about, read my post on PTB -- "Some Googlers shouldn’t be allowed to blog". Matt Cutts has some nice blogging…

The Outsourcing Saga Continues…

Relevance: 76%      Posted on: May 26, 2007

I wrote about an entry about the Marisyl Castillon vs. Michael Turner outsourcing fiasco back in August last year. I thought that issue was already done and been dealt with until I saw this news report from the local TV Patrol down south. See YouTube video from SEOLuv below: Here's a crude summary translation of the TV report (done in Visayan language): "About Php1.3 million worth of computers was seized from the office of SEO Builders upon the order of a Cagayan de Oro RTC judge. They were taken from the possession of Marisyl Castillon which included 27 computer sets…

Is the Philippines really hot with Call Centers?

Relevance: 54%      Posted on: March 23, 2006

I'm seeing a lot of reports, news and all raves about the Philippines being the center of attention for the call center industry (or is that contact center?). But, is the Philippines the primary destination? Statistics would show we're not. Last week, reports came out that Apple will be opening up a tech support facility in Bangalore, India with an initial manpower of 1,500 and to double by the end of the year. Why Apple didn't pick the Philippines, I can only speculate. The early this week, Dell formally launched its office at the SM Mall of Asia in Pasay…

9TV inks deal with TBS Inc., to become CNN Philippines

Relevance: 53%      Posted on: October 14, 2014

Fresh from the recent rebrand to 9TV back in August, RPN 9 will once again undergo a major transformation as current majority stake holder, Antonio Cabangon-Chua, inks a deal with Turner Broadcasting System Inc. (TBS, Inc.) which will turn the 9News to CNN Philippines by 2015. According to Media Newser Philippines, the 9TV will benefit from the fresh contents that will be provided by its new ally. Furthermore, it’s been said that CNN Philippines will bring “some of its current programming to non-cable Filipino viewers” when launched next year. However, not everybody shares the same optimism as Cabangon-Chua has with…

The hazards of outsourcing/homeshoring

Relevance: 44%      Posted on: August 3, 2006

I cannot attest to the veracity of this story but it looks like an interesting one. This got my attention because Marc did an interview with the CEO of the company for PTB months ago. Here's how I understood what happened in a small SEO outsourcing outfit (HarvestSEO) based in Cagayan de Oro (CDO): i) A businessman in the US (Michael Turner) hired someone from the Philippines to run an outsourcing company of around 40 people. ii) The Filipina partner (Marisyl Castillon) runs everything as the General Manager under the guidance of the American businessman. The American gets all payments…

Technorati Tag “Philippines” for all Pinoy Blogs

Relevance: 39%      Posted on: May 19, 2006

We've discussed the issue of how to tag blogs as Pinoy for a localized search with Migs, I suggested that Technorati tagging could be a good method to approach the problem. The same solution could be used for identifying the Philippine's Technorati Top 100 here. But not everyone is subscribed to Technorati and not all Filipino bloggers are using "Philippines" as one of their tags. Take a look at this: Blogs about: Philippines on Technorati. It already ranks blogs that has the tag "Philippines" on their profiles. As of now, tehcnorati has tracked 598 blogs about "Philippines" and you can…

What will happen to Sony-Ericsson Philippines?

Relevance: 39%      Posted on: February 22, 2012

Now that Sony has finalized the buyout of Sony-Ericsson, the new handset company will be named Sony Mobile Communications. So what happens to the folks over at Sony-Ericsson. I happen to talk to one executive from the company who gave me some possible scenarios. I am told that Sony-Ericsson Philippines will eventually be dissolved and Sony Philippines will take over the mobile phone brand. As for the folks from SE Philippines, they will all be invited to move and work for Sony Philippines under the mobile handset division. What we're not sure is if the GM and some of the…
