Why no Michelle Malkin on the list?

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: July 17, 2007

There are so many top list in the cropping up Philippine blogosphere nowadays and it's a good thing because it allows us to discover the yet un-discovered. It also gives us a different perspective, depending on who's creating the list and what that list represents. However, if you regularly visited all these lists, you will see almost the same trend -- the same names keep making it on the top, except for several bloggers who wanted to keep their identity a secret (nobody even knows what's Bryanboy's real name or if he's really just 17). There's also one other very…

Bye, bye Fake Steve Jobs

Relevance: 86%      Posted on: August 6, 2007

As some of you might have already read the breaking news lately, or even blogged about it, the real identity behind Fake Steve Jobs (FSJ) has been unmasked. As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. All the fun, humor and mystery will cease to exist for readers of The Secret Diary of Steve Jobs now that he's been outed. The man behind the parody blog is Daniel Lyons, a senior editor at Forbes. Well it had to happen. Honestly I can't believe it's taken this long. But as you may have heard, I've been busted…

Are these fake iPod Nanos?

Relevance: 84%      Posted on: February 19, 2007

First time I saw them imitation iPod Nanos (2nd Gen) were at the 168 Mall last month. This week-end, I saw them again at the SM Appliance Storeand they were displayed in the shelves along with several other music players. Took pictures using my N6233 (sorry for the crappy images). The label says the MP4 Player has an FM Tuner, Games, Music & Record Voice. There are two capacities - 512MB (Php4,100+) and 1GB (Php6,400+), in a variety of colors. I think these are manufactured in the same factories in China, minus the expensive high-capacity flash drives of the original…

This is why "mobile blogging" isn't safe for kids -- Smart's Addict Mobile Blog (or AMBlog) is being swamped with nude pictures being posted via MMS by its subscribers. A recent visit to Smart's AMBlog revelead a lot of explicit nudity and sexual acts which is way beyond the borders of soft porn. Readers, beware. Pictures below are "Not Safe for Kids". Smart ought to do some serious filtering here. Reposting from Pinoy.Tech.Blog.

Spotted: Fake Apple Store in China?

Relevance: 83%      Posted on: September 16, 2011

Remember that huge story about fake Apple Stores across mainland China last August? There were over 20 of them found to be just a local reseller labeling their stores as "Apple Store". They have all allegedly been renamed since then but I accidentally spotted one tonight. I had to go out tonight to look for an Apple USB Ethernet Adapter to use with my Macbook Air in the hotel (forgot mine at home). This store was spotted outside the Yian Department Store here in Dongguan, China. I went inside the store and the friendly staff attended to me right away.…

Scammers produce fake deposit slips for online sellers

Relevance: 79%      Posted on: February 10, 2015

Recent incidents pointed to a group of online scammers producing fake BDO deposit slips to show to online sellers in order to process orders. The faked deposit transaction slips were produced using the original paper (which customers are given after making a deposit) and printed with the validation machines. It is unknown where or how the validation machines were acquired by the scammers. To the untrained eye, the deposit slips really looked like the original ones. The scammers then use these as proof of payment for orders they've made from online stores. One online seller we talked to has coordinated…

FB Click Farms, Fake Likes traced to the Philippines

Relevance: 78%      Posted on: February 11, 2014

There's been a growing number of underground business that revolve around Facebook advertising, specifically generating fake clicks and FB likes. A story from the Washington Post narrated a story of a Facebook user advertising his FB Fan Page only to attract over 80,000 Likes, most of which he concluded as fake ones. Majority of the clicks and likes generated from FB ad campaigns were coming from unusual countries such as the Philippines, Egypt, India, Pakistan, etc. However, the fan page that got 80,000 Likes only has 1% engagement rate which is pretty low. It is no secret that fake FB…

Fake Nokia E72 has Dual-SIM

Relevance: 75%      Posted on: November 28, 2009

We saw this Nokia E72 China Phone yesterday being sold at Makati Cinema Square for just Php4,000 but my cousin was able to get it down to just Php3,650 with two free SIM cards for the dual-SIM slot. The construction and build quality is impressive you'd think the phone was made at the same Chinese factory the original ones were made. Of course, the prints and painted logos seemed they were done in haste (that gave away hints that it's a knock-off). The camera at the back even says it's 9 megapixels. The speakers also blast broken audio even at…

NBI Cracked Down Php70M-worth of Fake Gizmos

The National Bureau of Investigation, together with the Intellectual Property Office, Bureau of Customs and the PNP-CIDG, have raided a warehouse in Barraca Street, Binondo, Manila owned by LFA Enterprises and have seized counterfeit merchandises including fake smartphones and tablets amounting to Php70 million. As Ben Entico, the Special Assistant to the District Collector of Port of Manila, pointed out, most if not all of the items that were seized during the raid bears a Made in China label on the packaging. However, some of the items (Samsung and Hyundai to name a few) have Made in Korea label but…

Fake 2nd Gen iPod Nano

Relevance: 71%      Posted on: January 14, 2007

Just came back from 168 Mall (Divisoria) with my cousins for some last minute shopping before they go back to the province. There were several gadget shops there but one stall really fooled me with this 2nd generation iPod Nano. Took several shots with my phone camera: From the glass shelves, it looked like the real thing but when I asked the saleslady how much it was, she replied Php1,900. Ok, that's a dead giveway. Capacity is still at 256MB like the older imitations I saw at Makati Cinema Square last year. The other one son the shelves had the…
