The Motorola Droid Razr has landed and it is indeed the slimmest phone we’ve ever unboxed and held. Announced back in October, it’s now retailing in a few stores for around Php29,000+.

Why is everybody dissing the Nokia N97?

When the official price of the Nokia N97 was finally announced, I was glad that it was way lower than my guesstimate. Having sold my Nokia 5800, I was preparing to buy the N97 and do a full review until I read all the other earlier reviews. I wondered why all the top tech blogs gave the Nokia N97 a thumbs down?

When I was in Gummersbach last month, we had a round-table discussion on tech and mobile phones were among the topics we discussed. I did a quick survey from the 23 country reps and asked which is the most popular phone model in their country.

Motorola USB Flash Drive Giveaway

I never realized express couriers could be so uptight about shipping some harmless USB flash drive. We had to return 3 times with three different packaging types to get the things approved for shipping. And they charge as much as the drive itself. Anyway, here’s the last USB drive I’ll be giving away. Ever.

All you gotta do is guess what’s the capacity.

Nokia 6555 to compete with Motorola Razr

Despite the global dominance of mobile manufacturer Nokia, it still lags behind Motorola in Northern America. This is primarily because of the Razr which had a phenomenal sales performance with most telcos in the US.

Motorola sold 50 million Razr phones in less than 2 years after its debut. So, what will Nokia do to claim the northern regions — a Nokia 6555 Razr-like flip phone.

10 Most Hyped Tech Product Launches

At the dawn of the iPhone sale date, cNet published their own “Tech’s 10 most-hyped product launches“. Will the Apple iPhone break history records as the most hyped product ever? Let’s see how other products compared to this one.

The list includes eight hardwares and two software products:

1.) Segway
2.) The original Macintosh (1984)
3.) Microsoft’s XBox 360
4.) Sony PlayStastion 3
5.) Nintendo Wii
6.) Microsoft Windows 95
7.) Motorola Razr
8.) Gizmondo
9.) Sony PlayStation 2
10.) World of Warcraft (Blizzard)

While Sony got 2 of their PlayStations (with the PS2 being considered as the bes- selling video game device in history) on the list and Micrsoft took another 2, Apple only got the Macintosh. I guess the iPod and the Macbooks didn’t make as much splash when they were launched. Funny, I don’t remember Gizmondo.

With regards to the iPhone, we’ll see in the coming days.

Samsung Z560: first HSDPA phone in the Philippines?

Before, I didn’t know that 3G and HSDPA were different. The gals from Globe insists that HSDPA is better and calls it 3.5G. So, that’s why I’m getting better speeds with Globe Visibility than Smart 3G on 3G covered areas.

Then, the other night, they asked me to test a demo phone – the Samsung Z560. It really looks like a Motorola Razr to me. See pics below:

Samsung Z560

They claim it’s the 1st HSDPA phone in the country, and probably the rest of South East Asia.

The specs:

Built-in 2 megapixel camera
Allows Video telephony and streaming
MP3 ringtone capable
Bluetooth and USB connectivity
Card slot: MicroSD with 30MB shared memory
Triband

Haven’t completely tested the demo unit but all I can say is that I get free unlimited text messaging, voice calls and video calls. Anybody with a video calling phone out there I can try calling?

I also tried browsing the net with it whcih is actually fast — Google.com loads in less than 4 seconds. More on this once I finished using the phone.

Oh, before I forgot, it retails Php24k (a little expensive huh?). See more details on this at the Globe eShop.
