ZTE MF60 HSPA+ Pocket WiFi Review

How to Setup Globe GPRS, 3G & MMS

Note: See complete APN Settings for Smart, Globe and Sun Cellular.

This tutorial will help you setup your mobile phone and activate/configure GPRS, 3G and MMS features for Globe Telecoms.

GPRS SETTINGS

1. Go to Menu > Choose Settings > Connectivity
2. Go to Data Accounts
3. Create New Account. GPRS/ PS Data

Account Name: MyGlobe GPRS

APN: www.globe.com.ph

4. Save Account
5. Go to Internet Settings
6. Create New Profile

Name: MyGlobe WAP

Connect Using: MyGlobe GPRS

7. Save Profile
8. Select the profile MyGlobe WAP in Internet Profile
9. Click Right Soft Key to Choose More and Select Settings

Internet Mode: HTTP

Use Proxy: Yes

Proxy Address: 203.177.042.214

Port Number: 8080

10. Save Settings and repeat Step 9 but this time choose Advance Settings
11. Change Homepage

Title: MyGlobe

Address: http://www.globe.com.ph/globe.asp

12. Save Changes

MyGlobe Internet Settings

1. Go to Menu > Choose Settings > Connectivity
2. Go to Data Accounts
3. Create New Account. GPRS / PS Data

Account Name: MyGlobe INTERNET
APN: internet.globe.com.ph

4. Save Account

MyGlobe MMS Settings

1. Go to Menu>Choose Settings>Connectivity
2. Go to Data Accounts
3. Create New Account. GPRS/ PS Data

Account Name: MyGlobe MMS

APN: mms.globe.com.ph

5. Go to Internet Settings
6. Create New Profile

Name: MyGlobe MMS

Connect Using: MyGlobe MMS

7. Save Profile
8. Select the profile MyGlobe MMS in Internet Profile
9. Click Right Soft Key to Choose More and Select Settings

Internet Mode: HTTP
Use Proxy: Yes

10. Save Settings
11. Click Right Soft Key to Choose More and Select Advance Settings

15. From Message Settings, make your Internet Profile: MyGlobe MMS

MyGlobe Stream Settings

1. Go to Menu>Choose Settings>Connectivity
2. Go to Data Accounts
3. Create New Account. GPRS/PS Data
Account Name: MyGlobe Stream

APN: real.globe.com.ph

4. Save Account
5. Go to Streaming Settings
6. Make MyGlobe Stream your default APN.

Globe 3G: 5 Pesos for 15 minutes!

This just in. Got a message from someone inside Globe telling me Globe GPRS/3G/HSDPA (myGlobe GPRS and myGlobe Internet on your mobile phone settings) has moved to time-based charging. That’s 5 pesos for every 15 minutes! It’s about time.

Fix your ISP DNS Problems

It has been a constant problem not only for me but for a lot of people as well. There are times when I get reports that people cannot see any of my blogs or some other people’s sites I host. Yet, the server is up, there is no problem on the data center and the affected sites load fine from other locations or other ISPs.

Almost all local ISPs have this problem — poor DNS architecture, network congestion, or inadequate peering arrangements — PLDT (esp. Smart Wifi), Eastern Telecoms, Globe Quest (Innove), and GreenDot.

What I usually suggest to people is to reset their modem and reboot. If you’re on a corporate account, it’s also effective to call the ISP’s tech support and ask them to hook you to a different/better DNS server. I do get a lot of arguments with their tech guys thru email exchanges and even if they fixed the problem, they wouldn’t admit the issue originated from their end.

I end up using other tools to show the clients that their site is running fine — free proxy servers, remote ping/traceroute tools, anonymous web proxies.

Then, here comes OpenDNS:

OpenDNS Two things make OpenDNS faster than similar services. First, Open DNS runs a really big, smart cache, so every OpenDNS user benefits from the activities of the broader OpenDNS user base. Second, OpenDNS runs a high-performance network which is geographically distributed (see network map) and serviced by several redundant connections. OpenDNS responds to your query from the nearest location. That means we’re very fast (and extremely reliable, to boot).

Instead of using your default DNS settings, you can use OpenDNS instead. Been using it for a couple of days now and seemed to work fine and somewhat faster.

Here are instructions on how to use it with your PC (if you connect directly to the net) or configuring your routers (e.g. Linksys). Try it and see if you’re still having problems with not being able to view certain sites. Hopefully, it does solve the problem.
