NTC issues memo on Mobile Internet Charges

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: May 29, 2011

Saw this memo posted at the Power Mac Center earlier today -- it's an NTC Memorandum Circular that mandates smartphone vendors and retailers to follow consumer protection rights on newly sold phones being charged 3G internet fees without consent from the buyer. Here's a photo I took of the memo. One particular section of the memo requires telcos to send a text message to subscribers once their credit limit reaches 50%. The memo was made effective last February so I am not sure if these provisions are well-enforced or being followed.

Yesterday, a minor update to the Galaxy Note N7000 was rolled out to unlocked units giving the handset the latest 4.0.4 version. The 178MB update for the N7000 or HSPA+ variant is said to feature numerous bug fixes and some icon changes as well as the 'Floating Video' capability. The floating video tech lets you continue to watch your movies and clips while doing something else on the phone with the help of a mini pop-up player. This feature was first debuted on the SGS3 when it was unveiled, it didn't really spark much attention since the consumers thought of…

Samsung i9100 Galaxy S II in the flesh!

Relevance: 87%      Posted on: April 9, 2011

What's thinner, lighter and twice as powerful as the Galaxy S? Well, it's the Galaxy S II (GT-i9100) of course and we've got one of them babies right here (though it's still an engineering unit and not the final release). Having owned the first Samsung Galaxy S, I was pretty excited how much improvements this second generation Galaxy S would look like and perform. It's definitely thinner, though not by much, despite having a larger 4.3-inch screen. It's much snappier too, if I might add. Samsung definitely made good effort in upgrading their Galaxy smarpthone. Just look at these specs.…

Asus has recently announced what could be a much cheaper Android Jellybean tablet than the Nexus 7. Though not really as powerful as the Nexus 7, the MeMO Pad ME172V will be more affordable by 25%. Current price of the Nexus 7 is Php13,995 locally so it is possible that Asus is really aiming for the sub-Php10k market with the Memo Pad. At $149, that's roughly Php6,000+ already (might end up around Php7.5k to Php8k when it reaches the Philippines). Of course, there's a trade-off. The hardware configuration isn't the same as the Nexus 7. Asus MeMO Pad ME172V specs:…
