PLDT to spend Php86 million to double bandwidth capacity

In keeping with the steady rise of demand for high-speed broadband internet in the country, the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) has released a statement that the telco is planning to invest $2M to upgrade the Asia-America Gateway (AAG) cable system 100 Gigabit standards, increasing the bandwidth capacity by 200% in the process.

Wi-Tribe doubles Plan 1998 speed to 4Mbps

Wi-Tribe has recently (not sure exactly when) upgraded all the speed limtes of all of their broadband plans, including the top Plan 1998 from 2Mbps to 4Mbps. Not bad considering my PLDT DSL plan is charging the same rate but only pulls down 1Mbps (supposed to be 2Mbps or 3Mbps).

PLDT now offers 10Mbps DSL plan for Php4,000

In a TV commercial aired last Saturday, PLDT introduced a new DSL plan which offers up to 10Mbps for just Php4,000. That makes it the top broadband offering under the myDSL service line-up (PLDT MyDSL Plan 4000).

Akamai reports Philippine internet now at 2.0Mbps

In July 2013 we reported that Akamai, an Internet content delivery network, indicated that the average connection speed in the Philippines is 1.4Mbps with an average peak of 13.8Mbps. By end of 2013, they’ve reported that the Philippines average has increased to 2.0Mbps with a 42% year-on-year increase.
