Now that the PLDT-Digitel merger has been finalized, Smart and Sun Cellular can now offer tandem plans for both network’s subscribers. They’ve now introduced the Smart Sun Dual 549 Plan.

Casiño charges NTC under telco’s payroll

Rep. Teddy Casiño made a bold charge against NTC Commissioners that they may be under the payroll of telcos, citing that the Commission has not made any strong regulatory powers over the telcos for the longest time.

NTC hearing on PLDT-Digitel deal on May 23

PLDT‘s acquisition of Digitel is still in the works and is not final (see original story here). NTC has yet to approve of this sale before it pushes thru. As such, the commission has set a hearing this May 23, 2011.

Merging Smart & Sun not good for consumers?

PLDT now has an overwhelming majority of the telco business in the Philippines — it owns Smart, Talk ‘N Text, Red Mobile and now Sun Cellular representing more than 70% of the subscriber base combined {see earlier story here}.
