Sony AM/FM ICF-620R Card Radio

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: December 10, 2010

So I've finally gotten some time to unbox some of the trinkets and stuff I've gotten from Japan. Most of them are Apple accessories but this AM/FM pocket radio from Sony looked nifty. There were actually 2 variants when I first saw this -- one is just an AM Tuner and this other one which is an AM/FM Tuner. The AM Radio Card costs about 3,000 yen while the AM/FM Radio Card like this one is 5,500 yen. I got the latter with a painting of Mt. Fuji on the cover. Other designs cost a bit more (6,000 yen). The…

Why mobile phones have no AM Radio?

Relevance: 97%      Posted on: October 15, 2008

About a year ago, I asked the guys at Nokia Singapore why they don't have AM radio tuners to pair with the millions of FM tuner capable phones they develop. I thought the answer was in the north of physics, something that had to do with frequency modulation and amplitude modulation. I guessed wrong. The truth is, it's largely got to do with market demand. Who would want to use AM radio on their phones? I told them, AM radio is still hot and raging in the Philippines especially with regular folks that listen to news. The other day, one…

Google just announced an upcoming change in its AdSense Program that allows Publishers to modify their ads without changing the code. The ad code management will then be centralized in the AdSense panel. This new ad management feature means that your ad unit settings (such as colors and channels) for new AdSense for content ad units will be saved in your AdSense account every time you generate ad code. Then, if you'd like to change any of these settings in the future, all you do is make the update within your account -- you'll no longer need to manually replace…

Is Social Media saving Radio?

Relevance: 94%      Posted on: June 15, 2011

Is Social Media saving Radio? Or, is it the other way around? I don't regularly listen to radio nor watch TV and the only time I tune in is when I'm driving. For some time now, I've noticed that both AM and FM radio channels have actually embraced social media -- specifically Facebook, Twitter and UStream. DZMM is heavy on Facebook and a lot of FM stations and DJs are promoting their Twitter and UStream account to interact with their listeners. There are fewer calls and text messages being read on-air. I guess because the internet is more scalable and…

I am posting the simple hack I made with using dynamic images to replace the date entries of my blog. Just follow the short tutorial here to implement the same with your Wordpress blog: Create your own date image template in Photoshop. Make sure that you layout them so that the month, day and year are all distinct from each other and not overlapping. See my example here : Using the ruler guide in Photoshop, slice the template into three parts. You will need to determine the date format you use in your blog. Mine uses day of week, day…

More Podcasts than Radio Worldwide

Relevance: 93%      Posted on: March 30, 2006

While listening to The Liberal Times Manila podcast, one of the hosts, Dr. Meinardus, was discussing about the growth of podcasting as an alternative to radio. Stats-wise, podcasts has now outnumbered radio stations all over the world. Podcast Like A Champ quotes SiliconRepublic which pegs the total number of radio stations worldwide to 36,000. While the iTunes website only has a figure of 35,000 podcasts , Feedburner is serving around 44,099 podcasts as of today. The figure could be much higher than that. Will podcasting replace radio? Maybe not (yet), but it sure eats away some of the airtime. [tags]podcast…
