What’s your oldest registered domain?

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: July 3, 2006

A link from Digg reported that the oldest registered domain, Symbolics.com, is still up and running. The domain was registered as early as March 15, 1985 -- more than 21 years ago! I got my first registered domain back in 1999 for yugatech.com which was offered for free by NameZero. Domain registration then was still $35 per year and free domain services like NameZero and NameDemo used advertising in a frame to offset the cost of the free domains. Took me until October 7, 2002 to finally re-register yugatech.com along with pinoyblog.com thru my friend who runs MobileHive. We had…

Lessons on Domain Name Squatting

Relevance: 82%      Posted on: December 28, 2007

For months now, Marc has been joking that he'll sell me a domain I should have owned years ago. So yes, I really intended to get the domain abeolandres.com last month, and I thought I already did (along with several other personally branded ones). I'm supposed to start my photography blog today. Imagine my utter surprise when I checked the domain a few minutes ago: Domain Name: ABEOLANDRES.COM Registrar: ULTRARPM INC. DBA METAPREDICT.COM Whois Server: whois.ultrarpm.com Referral URL: http://www.ultrarpm.com Name Server: SK.S1.NS1.NS180.CNOMY.COM Name Server: SK.S1.NS2.NS180.CNOMY.COM Status: ok Updated Date: 24-dec-2007 Creation Date: 24-dec-2007 Expiration Date: 24-dec-2008 Okay, all along I…

Sulit files for UDRP to claim related domain

Relevance: 80%      Posted on: June 19, 2011

I thought this day would come when Sulit.com.ph would go after those who use the Sulit-related domains that run a competing service. I have just been told that the company has filed a UDRP with ICANN to claim the domain sulit.ph. The Uniform Domain-Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) was filed with ICANN, probably early last month, so that Sulit.com.ph may be able to take-over the domain Sulit.ph. In this case, Sulit.com.ph must establish a number of elements to succeed over the dispute: the domain name is identical or confusingly similar to a trademark or service mark in which the complainant…

Poll: How much should a PH domain cost?

Relevance: 79%      Posted on: January 17, 2008

Since we're still on the subject of the PH domain pricing, I thought a poll from our readers here is in order. Andre left a good point in the comments. As a PH reseller, I once contemplated on heavily investing in the domains and sell it the sub-Php1,000 range. So our poll question is, how much should the PH domain cost that will convince you to buy? I limited the choices from Php600 to Php1,200. If the results are reasonable, I might get some investors and push this thru. The premise is that, dotPH pricing will remain the same at…

Your own domain on WordPress.com blogs

Relevance: 77%      Posted on: October 24, 2006

Wordpress.com has just announced over the week-end that it's giving away free domains on randomly selected Wordpress.com blogs. Our most requested feature has nearly always been the ability to change a blog's URL. We’ve been working on a system that lets you do just that and I am pleased to tell you that it is almost ready! Just to clarify what I’m talking about, we are making it possible to give your WordPress.com blog a different URL. For example, your blog can live at yourdomain.com or blog.yourdomain.com instead of yourblog.wordpress.com. Domain registration and mapping are sensitive, technical operations and we…

Mike D. claims Chiz squatted on his domain?

Relevance: 75%      Posted on: January 26, 2007

Jove Francisco and I discussed about the technical merits of this story where Senatoriable Mike Defensor is claiming the opposition (apparently Chiz Escudero) is behind the hi-jacking or cyber-squatting of his domain, mikedefensor.com. I did some digging before I gave the go signal to Jove to run the story on his blog. We'll just look at the WHOIS info of the domain first. From DNSStuff, we get this whois registration information: Domain Name.......... mikedefensor.com Creation Date........ 2006-08-03 Registration Date.... 2006-08-03 Expiry Date.......... 2007-08-03 Organisation Name.... Now that KAT.PH is down, which PH domain is next?

Relevance: 74%      Posted on: June 16, 2013

The recent seizure of the KAT.PH domains have angered a lot of people who rely on the site for illegal downloads (see original story here). What is actually more chilling is the idea that this seizure can also happen to another PH domain as well, whether the allege offense is similar or otherwise. The scenario is very simple and has set a precedent -- a site allegedly hosting or even merely pointing to illegal or copyrighted content can be shut down but a simple TRO. In this case, the PH domain was seized (re-pointed to a null destination) causing the…

Centralized Google AdSense Ad Management

Relevance: 72%      Posted on: October 24, 2007

Google just announced an upcoming change in its AdSense Program that allows Publishers to modify their ads without changing the code. The ad code management will then be centralized in the AdSense panel. This new ad management feature means that your ad unit settings (such as colors and channels) for new AdSense for content ad units will be saved in your AdSense account every time you generate ad code. Then, if you'd like to change any of these settings in the future, all you do is make the update within your account -- you'll no longer need to manually replace…
