Visiting LG Electronics in South Korea

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: February 17, 2010

About a dozen and half media people were invited here in South Korea today to visit several offices and plants by LG Electronics. We'll be here for the rest of the week so expect a number of posts about our trip. We'll be touring and going around a lot so maybe I can squeeze in a few more posts than normal. I'm just checking my options if I can connect to their 3G networks here on top of the hotel WiFi. Will also be sharing photos and HD videos of our trip and some inside look at LG's factory and…

GreenZap opens shop.

Relevance: 94%      Posted on: June 8, 2005

After months of speculations, GreenZap officially opened its site yesterday. Anyone who has an account can spend, send or receive payments online just like Paypal. I first signed up for it last April with hesitations but it does not hurt to try so I jumped right in. With my Paypal account in the edge of suspension, I thought I'd find an alternative online payment facility. GreenZap could prove to be the alternative. They also have a debit card you can request and use to withdraw your cash account. I have yet to send or receive any webcash though my account…

Water-Powered Cell Phones

Relevance: 92%      Posted on: October 15, 2007

Here's one indication that water will be a more expensive commodity in the future -- water-powered batteries for the mobile phones. Korea mobile manufacturer, Samsung, has recently unveiled at the 2007 Korea Electronics Show a new source of fuel-cells. The new fuel cell, powered by H2O, could power a handset for 10 hours -- almost twice as long as current rechargeable batteries. These water-powered handsets are expected to hit the market by 2010. Users will only have to change the hydrogen cartridge when the energy is depleted. Isn't that gonna be costly? However, they add that later handsets will be…

Orange & Bronze’s e-shop+

Relevance: 89%      Posted on: November 14, 2005

Yet, another local payment solutions player? Yehey spammed me with the launching of Orange & Bronze ... An innovative virtual shopping system that enables your customer easy, convenient and secure access to your products and services 24/7. O&B e-shop+ is integrated into various payment platforms (VISA, Mastercard, JCB, Bancnet, Megalink) to enable you to reach your local and international clients and achieve your profit potentials, while lowering overhead costs. Targetted for SME's? Maybe, but there's nothing more about this system anywhere in their site. Even the usual navigational text links are dead (see bottom pages). Will this be on my…

LG Electronics will no longer make plasma TV

Relevance: 88%      Posted on: October 30, 2014

Plasma TV will become a rarer sight in stores as South Korean company, LG Electronics Inc., will end its own production of the said TV technology by November. The reason behind the demise of plasma TV production of LG is the decline in demand. Plasma TV hasn't been really a popular product in the past years due to the rapid growth of LCD technology. LG labelled plasma TV as "not a business anymore". They will focus on LCD and OLED TVs instead. LG is not the only major player to halt their plasma TV production. Panasonic and Samsung already ended…

The official press conference may be set on December 16, but it looks like Chinese electronics giant Huawei is listing another version of the 64-bit Honor 4X smartphone early, this time powered by their own Kirin processor, for pre-sale on their website. Sharing most of the specs with its SnapDragon 410-equipped twin, the Honor 4X is that first smartphone that will be equipped with the octa-core, 64-bit Kirin 620 processor. It will also sport a 5.5-inch HD display, 13MP rear and 5MP front cameras, and LTE support. There will be two versions available, each sporting different amounts of RAM. Huawei Honor 4X…

LG L25 leaks, powered by Firefox OS

Relevance: 84%      Posted on: December 7, 2014

It looks like more companies are jumping in to the Firefox OS bandwagon: Korean electronics giant LG is reportedly working on a new smartphone powered by Mozilla's own mobile operating system aptly named as the L25. Twitter user @upleaks posted what it looks like a sketch for LG's first Firefox device. While the design would make you think that this is a common LG entry-level android smartphone, the screenshots proved otherwise -- the interface and icons are very reminiscent to that of the Mozilla mobile OS. No specs were revealed except that it has 4G LTE, but word has it that this device will…

Apple might acquire Beats Electronics for $3.2 billion

Relevance: 83%      Posted on: May 9, 2014

Beats Audio, makers of premium headphones (premium prices too), might soon be a part of your iPhone, iPod, and iPad. Rumor has it that Apple is considering to buy Beats Electronics, makers of the popular Beats Audio products, for $3.2 billion. Beats was recently valued at more than $1 billion, and even with Apple's large cash pile of around $159 billion, this will pose as the company's biggest acquisition yet if it pushes through. This is not the first time that Beats Audio was incorporated with mobile devices. HTC owns 50.1% majority share of Beats and had their previous flagship…
