Digg 4 wants to be Twitter for News

Relevance: 96%      Posted on: August 27, 2010

The 4th version of Digg has been rolled out with several major changes in the design, front-page algorithm, and social components. The social news site has somehow transform into some sort of Twitter-like streaming of news and links. Since 2004, Digg has been a major source of breaking news and stories for me -- ranging from the oddest, funniest, and most informative collection of stories. However, thru the years, it has been invaded by power-users and power-groups that dominated majority of what comes out in the front-page. It somewhat lost it relevance so the 4th version of Digg is trying…

Searching Google News

Relevance: 92%      Posted on: December 28, 2006

I never realized that I'd get that much coverage after taking the helm at BlogHerald so imagine my surprise when I searched my name at Google News: Looks like BH is listed in Google News as news source. On the same page, I saw several mentions of me I didn't know about (except for the interview with the New York Times I had yesterday): The Day the Pixels Froze: When a Digital World Was Stopped by a Natural Disaster The New York Times December 28, 2006 Earthquake knocks Asia back to phone age, and beyond International Herald Tribune December 27,…

Why the scarcity of local IT news?

Relevance: 89%      Posted on: June 30, 2007

Mon Lizardo of tells Aileen Apolo that there aren't really much IT news in the Philippines. She was basically "ranting about the lack of Philippine internet news. I read a lot of local tech blogs and news, but there are just aren't any stuff about local IT stuff. How come?" Though most tech bloggers and journalist alike would concur to this observation, I think I have a different angle to this. Let me give you a backgrounder. I bumped into an old friend while heading to the gym last night (Fitness First at The Fort, anyone?) and he told…

Blogs eating away online news readership?

Relevance: 88%      Posted on: September 2, 2005

I was sent an interview (about blogging) over email a couple of days ago. One question asked me to compare mainstream media and blogging and how it affects our surfing behavior. I thought the follow-up question was more intruiging than the first. Then I realized that I myself (as a blogger) have undergone thru the changes in surfing behavior as well. Before, whenever I wanted to go online and read anything about current events, I go and visit news sites like or ManilaBulletin. I go straight to the Infotech section and read up some locally relevant tech updates. In…

Relevance: 81%      Posted on: June 30, 2014

Over the weekend, Facebook admitted to altering hundreds of thousands of Facebook users’ news feed in order to conduct a psychological experiment all the way since 2012. This has caused some people to be enraged as they felt it was some form of intrusion to their privacy in addition to having their feelings toyed with. However, the company explained the reason behind this experiment. The experiment was done to determine if social media affects people’s emotions based on what they see on their news feed. Reports state that "when a person loaded their News Feed, posts that contained emotional content…

Facebook News Feed redesign coming up!

Relevance: 79%      Posted on: March 8, 2013

Facebook is continuing to maintain its position by introducing new stuff every now and then. We have another update to the news feed coming in a while, and it's designed to unify the interfaces across platforms and make it uniform. Goodbye clutter, hello bright & beautiful stories - that's what Facebook is trying to do here. Basically, it's meaning to simplify everything to work similarly with its iOS and Android counterparts. It features the same menu that slides out on the left side, with your usual stuff on top (notifications, friend requests and messages), while stories are now enclosed in rounded…

GMA News launches blog network?

Relevance: 78%      Posted on: January 9, 2007

I didn't notice this one until today. has a blog network -- says so on this page title here: First, I'd like to congratulate GMA 7 for such a bold move. From this post, looks like the relaunch and the blog went out on New Year's eve although their archives are showing blank entries/pages from way back November 2006. This will be the year when we will see how mainstream media handles the wild, wild world of blogging. A lot of issues and fine lines to be drawn: Who's accountable for the blog content? Just the journalist or the…
