Asus X401: Big laptop at netbook price

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: August 11, 2012

We got a quick preview of this laptop back in May and Asus was really excited about this because the X401 is now crossing into the price category of the netbooks. This is probably the first non-netbook laptop from Asus that is priced under Php20k. Perhaps they are targeting this model towards students (those who want better screen), as entry-level laptop (the GPU is decent) or for volume buys from companies or schools (regular workforce). Asus X401 specs: 14.0" LED @ 1366x768 pixels AMD E2-1800 1.7GHz dual-core processor AMD Radeon HD 7340 graphics 2GB DDR3 RAM (4GB max) 500GB SATA…

Why no Apple Netbook?

Relevance: 92%      Posted on: October 16, 2008

One of the things that people expected from Apple during the recent announcement was a netbook. A mini Macbook Air would have been a game-changer in the netbook wars. It never came out. Steve Jobs himself, when asked about netbooks, said "that's a nascent market that's just getting started." On the other hand, I have some idea why Apple hasn't joined the netbook market. An Apple Netbook will ultimately kill the Macbook Air. The netbook will become the lightest Apple laptop that will diffuse the attractiveness of the Macbook Air -- small and light. The netbook will naturally have an…

The big-named brands are catching up with the bandwagon and this time, it's Samsung that's just came out with their own netbook -- the 10-inch Samsung NC10. At least they know that the 7-inch and 9-inch netbook market has already been won by Asus and friends. The 10-inch netbook though is still a battle to be won and the Samsung NC10 looks like a good contender. Has 10.2" display screen (1024x600) running an Intel Atom 1.6GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 80-160GB HDD, 1.3MP webcam, memory card reader, WiFi 802.11 b/g and Bluetooth. Totes a 6-cell battery that could last up to…

Sony has been taking it's time to get its own netbook out in the market and at the same time, criticizing other manufacturers for a mediocre product. Well, it looks like its own Sony Vaio Pocket netbook will be put to the test now that details have been leaked. And it doesn't indicate if it's gonna run on an Intel Atom processor. See listed specs below: Intel 1.33GHz CPU 60GB HDD or 128GB SSD 8 inches (1600x768 pixels) LED display MS Windows Vista Sony claims this netbook will fit in your pocket. Gigabyte's entry to the UMPC market looks impressive. We spotted one yesterday during the Intel Atom launch, along with half a dozen other netbooks and nettops. Poll: Is the laptop vs. netbook battle shifting?

Relevance: 77%      Posted on: April 16, 2011

The year 2011 has seen so many tablets invading the market. It seems like the golden age of netbooks has come and gone and tablets have replaced it as the preferred portable computing device. Still, despite the growing popularity of tablets, I think a significant percentage of the consuming public still prefer netbooks (or, due to lack of budget, are still stuck with their old netbooks). As such, we're seeing netbooks being sold at under Php15k (or 30-50% cheaper than what they used to be). So is the "laptop vs. netbook" battle shifting to "netbook vs. tablet"? For people who…
