Which one’s your favorite gadget store?

Relevance: 94%      Posted on: January 11, 2011

I often get questions from readers which places (i.e. gadget stores) are among the best in the country? I don't have a very comprehensive list and experience with a lot of them, especially the online-only stores. For most of the time, I can only advise if a store is indeed a legit one and sometimes I also vouch for the ones that I personally know the owners or site operators. Other gadget stores have their own following -- including the ones in Hidalgo (famous for camera shops) and the sizable Multiply sellers. The PC stores have their own following too.…

Speaking of Email & Gadget Shopping

Some guy from Sweden emailed us at PTB asking for Gadget Shopping Tips here in Manila. I just realized that most of the gadgets and devices I have now were mostly bought from Electroworld/Abensons. The last 2 iPods that I got was on a 12-gives deal with Electroworld, Park Square 1. The Digital Canon Ixus 30 I bought March of 2005 was from Abensons, Waltermart (another 12 gives). My Nokia 3230 was bought at Electroworld in Megamall for 3 installments last August. My old Palm Zire 71 what I switched for a badminton raquet and bag was also bought from…

What’s on your Christmas Gadget Wish List?

Relevance: 85%      Posted on: November 16, 2011

Every year, we ask this question to our readers and we'll never get tired of asking it again and again. Christmas is fast approaching and it's that time of the year where we get to indulge a bit on the gadget that we really like. Besides, for most folks in the Philippines December is also the month where almost everyone get to receive that extra month's pay (for the un-initiated, it's the 13th month pay). I've already gotten a lot of emails from people who are asking for stuff they'd like to get this Christmas and even local companies have…

Fund money for Google Gadget Ventures

Relevance: 83%      Posted on: June 29, 2007

This one doesn't really make sense to me -- Google is offering Google Gadget developers money and more funding for full-fledged business ideas. The program will provide two kinds of funding. First, we'll invite promising gadget developers (individuals or businesses) to apply for $5,000 grants to fund further development. These are not loans or equity investments; they're simply grants for gadgets that already have a thriving user base and we think have potential for even more improvement. To be considered for a grant, your gadget needs to have more than 250,000 pageviews per week, and you need to provide a…

For most people, Christmas is the only month of the year when they can get that drool-worthy gadget they've been wanting to buy for some time. There goes the 13th-month pay. So, what wishful gadget you got this Christmas? The iPad just became official so I'm thinking a lot of people will be getting that for themselves or as a gift. The Macbook Air 11.6" is drool-worthy as well as the Canon S95. Maybe an HTC Desire HD, a Samsung Galaxy Tab or even one of those Archos tablets. As for me, I've settled for this one -- a Fossil…

Sim Lim shops running scams on customers

Our recent visit to Singapore over the week-end got us scouring around the shops of Sim Lim and Funan Digital IT Mall. Sim Lim has been a favorite gadget mall since a lot of stores carry new and interesting gadgets where you can haggle for discounts. Our recent visit was totally different though. We headed off to Sim Lim Square on a Friday night of November 2 to look for the new iPad Mini that was released in Singapore that very same day. Most of the Apple Reseller stores in the city had ran out of stocks that same morning…
