So, how was your internet connection?

Relevance: 76%      Posted on: August 18, 2009

For the last 3 days (since Saturday), my connection was either down or too slow to even send a proper email. So instead of running around looking for some decent connection, I decided to sit back and treat the last 2 days as some sort of a blogging break. It's fine now though so I think everything's back to normal. How was your internet lately?

Connection Speed vs. Productivity

Relevance: 70%      Posted on: August 16, 2006

In this day and age when broadband connectivity is available almost everywhere, I almost forgot that a few years back a lot of us are under the mercy of dial-up connections. I've forgotten how efficient we were even without net access. Now, almost everything we (at least for me) do (work-related) is highly dependent on internet access and how fast the connectivity is. My question here is "by how much is your productivity affected by your internet speed?". From the last two days that I've been running on my mobile phone's GPRS connection, I would say "a lot". I'm now…

umobile connection problems with Globe

Relevance: 69%      Posted on: June 6, 2008

Anybody else on umobile having connection problems with Globe? Got my umobile SIM a couple days ago but never bothered using it until last night after finding out the've got some nice numbers -- mine's 0999-3000-xyy. However, SMS and calls from Globe numbers would not some thru. A friend who's using Globe tells me her SMS to my number got stuck in the Outbox. A phone call would not go thru either -- "your number cannot be completed as dialed" error or something. SMS and phone calls from a Smart mobile number are working fine though. Anybody else experiencing the…

NTC mulls lowering inter-connection charges

Relevance: 69%      Posted on: July 4, 2011

This should be good news to everyone -- the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) is considering the idea of lowering the inter-connection charges between telcos in the next 3 years. The current inter-connection charge for calls is Php4 and Php0.35 for SMS. NTC wants it to go down to Php1 for call and Php0.15 for SMS. When that happens, regular charges to consumers will also go down. If the regular fees to consumers is Php6.50 and Php1, for calls and SMS respectively, NTC's move could theoretically low calls to just Php3.50 and SMS to Php0.80. However, this could also heavily affect…

2 LAN connection on 1 PC?

Relevance: 69%      Posted on: May 30, 2006

Been trying to figure out how one of my desktops PC connected to two ISPs -- Smart Bro and PLDT myDSL. The myDSL is connected to a router and hooked up with the other PCs while Smart Bro is hooked up directly into this one desktop. Now, if we wanted to play Warcaft 3 on the network, only my laptop and the other PC can join so I am thinking that by adding a second LAN card and hooking it up to the router, this PC will also be part of the network. Is that possible? I haven't tried it…

Just arrived here at Singapore to cover the Nokia Connection 2010 which will start tomorrow. This is probably the 4th time I've been covering this event with Nokia (since 2007) so I kinda know what to expect and prepare for. We'll be expecting some new phones from Nokia tomorrow, some of which may have already been leaked out earlier. I'll be sharing all of the new mobile phones we'll see here with all of you. Don't think we can live blog from the event tomorrow but I should be able to post some tweets during their unveiling. You can follow…

Smart, Globe still fail NTC test for “dropped calls”

Relevance: 63%      Posted on: November 14, 2012

Two of the country's top telcos, Smart Communications, Inc. and Globe Telecom, Inc., both failed NTC's test for "dropped call" rate in the third quarter. NTC's standards for dropped call rates is at 2%. Unfortunately, both telcos failed to meet that standard. "Smart got a 2.15%, while Globe fared worse with 2.75%," says NTC Director Edgardo Cabarios. This means that there are more than two calls dropped or involuntary terminated for every 100 calls. Smart and Globe have been informed of the results and are asked to submit a written explanation why they failed to meet the 2% dropped call…
