Smart Bro replaces Smart Wifi

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: April 26, 2006

Smart Communications thought their Smart Wifi brand is knee deep in the mud right now that the best thing to remedy the bad publicity is to re-name it. So, they came up with Smart Bro (is that a shortcut for broadband?) They did some clean-up and even remove pages from their official site which mentioned Smart Wifi. Too bad that page is already #1 on Google, Yahoo and MSN for the term "smart wifi". (I suppose my blog will take over that spot, eh?) Migs pointed out that that Smart Bro is also a browser and a few days after…

According to Ericsson (the enterprise partner/supplier of Smart), there are a total of 250 LTE sites already deployed and working in the entire Luzon area. Got wind of this from a contact last week. So it's true that Smart has this promo of free 100 text message when you reload Php300 and Php500 call cards. At first, I was told that Smart wanted to do some experiment in blog marketing and wanted to the word out 72 hours before they officially advertise this promo. It looks like Smart is feeling the Philippine blogging atmosphere and wanted to how much reach we have as bloggers. A day after that, I got an email from a reader asking: may kilala ba kau sa smart? just wanna confirm…

Relevance: 89%      Posted on: July 30, 2010

Received this poster last night confirming that Smart has come up with its own micro-SIM and is available with a postpaid plan. Details are not clear yet but from what I gather, it will be included in a data plan with Smart Bro Plan 999. Obviously, that involves the Apple iPad 3G. I am also told this will also work with an open-line iPhone 4 (which is now selling in Hong Kong and Singapore). The Smart Bro Micro SIM is not available for prepaid yet though, just the Plan 999 for now. I have yet to receive my micro-SIM kit…

It's no wonder why Smart Bro is PLDT's most successful product/service ever. They're practically everywhere and there've been no competition in its first two years. You can even apply for Smart Bro inside a taxi cab. With over a quarter million (>250,000) subscribers to date, Smart Bro is gearing to be the number broadband provider in the Philippines. But wait, what is this I'm hearing that Hwuawei (a supply competitor to ZTE) is bidding for supplying 3G/HSDPA dongles for Smart and Sun Cellular too? Everybody's gunning for 3G while Globe is shifting away from it and moving on to WiMax.
