Installing Smart Bro & Globe Visibility on the same PC

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: October 8, 2008

The latest HSDPA 3G modem from Smart Bro and Globe Visibility were manufactured by ZTE in China. Both are practically plug-and-play devices. The problem is running both softwares (3G dialers) on the same PC. Since the device are practically similar, the system sees the two as a single device thus overwriting each others system settings. The Smart Bro model is MF622 and the Globe Visibility is MF626, making the latter the much newer model. Incidentally, the newer device drivers from ZTE would not work with the older model used by Smart Bro. In fact, Globe Visibility takes over the Smart

The Typhoon that busted my DSL Modem

Relevance: 80%      Posted on: June 23, 2008

In the years that typhoons have hit Metro Manila, none have dealt much damage to electronics at home. That's until Typhoon Frank hit Manila this week-end. It's all Frank's fault - the metrowide blackout busted my DSL modem. When the power went back on, everything seemed normal except for the SpeedStream 5100 ADSL modem that PLDT provided with my line. The damn thing just won't turn on again. Nothing, nil zilch. Must have been fried or something. Already reported to PLDT Customer Service about it and they promised to replace the modem with a newer model. Hopefully, they'd deliver it…

Smart and Globe has finally releaved their postpaid plans for the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c. Smart's pricing for the prepaid kit is derived from the Freedom Plan which is basically considered a prepaid plan as well. The difference between the two isn't that wide but generally, Smart's prices are a little higher. That's a stark contrast from last year's pricing where Smart was offering the most affordable prepaid price of the iPhone 5. You can check the postpaid plans…

After reading the two press releases from Smart and Globe as well as talking to several tech journalists today, I finally figured out the confusion on the HTC Magic announcement. Smart Communications snagged the exclusive deal with HTC to offer the phone in the Philippines. This deal has a locked-in period of 2 years. Smart Communications will start shipping units of the Android-powered HTC Magic to the local market by the end of the month (end of June 2009 or July 1, 2009). Since that date is "yet to come", Globe Telecom was able to start selling the HTC Magic…
