iPhone 6 prematurely announced by China Telecom

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: August 24, 2014

China Telecom has jumped the gun and prematurely announced the iPhone 6 ahead of the official Apple announcement on September 9. The announcement was made by China Telecom in their official Weibo account and though they have deleted the post, it was quickly shared by readers. The poster shows 3 color variants of the iPhone 6 along with a few details about the device. There were several leaks of the iPhone 6 before (see here) but this one by China Telecom puts a lot of credence to it. We're also been able to go hands-on with several iPhone 6 cases…

Globe Telecom nabs Apple iPhone deal

Relevance: 79%      Posted on: May 12, 2008

An email just this afternoon pointed me to the press release that Globe Telecom has agreed with Apple to exclusively offer the iPhone in the Philippines. Announcement was made at 1PM this afternoon. On the Globe Corporate site: Globe, SingTel, Bharti Airtel and Optus to bring iPhone to the region Manila, 12 May 2008 – Globe, SingTel, Bharti Airtel and Optus today announced that they have signed an agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone to the Philippines, Singapore, India, and Australia later this year. More information will be released at a later date. Finally! A call to people inside…

Smart vs. Globe iPhone 5s, 5c Prepaid Kit Prices

Relevance: 78%      Posted on: November 8, 2013

Smart and Globe has finally releaved their postpaid plans for the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c. While they've not highlighted the retail prices, we've dug up the exact prepaid prices for each model and variant. Smart's pricing for the prepaid kit is derived from the Freedom Plan which is basically considered a prepaid plan as well. The difference between the two isn't that wide but generally, Smart's prices are a little higher. That's a stark contrast from last year's pricing where Smart was offering the most affordable prepaid price of the iPhone 5. You can check the postpaid plans…

Leaked iPhone 4S Pre-order Page from Globe Telecom

Relevance: 78%      Posted on: November 24, 2011

An anonymous source gave us this link of the pre-order page for the iPhone 4S from Globe Telecom. This could mean we're really almost close to the launch of the iPhone 4S in the Philippines (but we already knew that from Globe's CEO a couple days ago). The page is typical of the pre-order page of Globe when they do online reservations for the iPhone (as we've seen in the last several years). Double-checked it several times and it looks like it's nowhere to be found on Globe's homepage which tells us this is still "unofficial". What's interesting is that…

Smart offers iPhone 4S free on Unlimited Data Plan 1500

Relevance: 77%      Posted on: November 25, 2012

So, while everyone is still patiently waiting for the official release of the iPhone 5 in the Philippines, Smart is already trying to adjust prices and plans for their iPhone 4S. Just this week, they've adjusted the Data Plan where the iPhone 4S will be given for free. The iPhone 4S used to be offered free under Unlimited Data Plan 2000. It is now down to Plan 1500 or a Php1,500 monthly cash-out. If that is the case, when the iPhone 5 is finally offered by Smart this December, we could be looking at a 16GB model being offered free…

Smart iPhone 5 subs get free LTE until April 30

Relevance: 76%      Posted on: January 29, 2013

Apple released the iOS 6.1 update the iPhone 5 earlier today and both Smart and Globe subscribers have had their iPhone 5 handset activated for LTE. Smart then announced they are giving subs free, unlimited access to their LTE network until April 30. In a press release posted by Smart today, all subs with unlimited data plans will also get the same under their LTE network. “Subscribers of Smart iPhone 5 postpaid plans with unlimited data can now get download speeds that are up to 20 times faster than the usual 3G connection on their mobile device,” said Smart Executive…

Smart’s iPhone 5S & 5C pre-order page goes live

Relevance: 76%      Posted on: October 25, 2013

MVP-led telco also wasted no time in coming up with their own pre-order page, allowing early adopters to get first dibs on the upcoming iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. Unlike Globe’s pre-order page, Smart went for a more straightforward approach, asking only basic info like first and last name, as well as the user’s email address. After submitting the request, you’ll receive an email notification telling you that “You are now one step ahead in finding out on how to be one of the first to get the iPhone 5c & 5s”, which you probably already know in the first…

Did Apple offer the iPhone 4 to Smart for 6B?

Relevance: 75%      Posted on: September 29, 2010

Heard about it once before and the rumor surfaced again this week that Smart Communications was trying to bid to carry the iPhone 4 in the Philippines. It never materialized so we'll have to put this entry in the speculative bin. The iPhone 4 is the 3rd smartphone from Apple to be released exclusively thru Globe Telecom in the Philippines. Globe is partly owned by SingTel (which also got the exclusive deal in Singapore) so it probably was a package deal for them 2 years ago. However, in some countries or regions, there are multiple carriers that distribute the iPhone.…

Smart drops iPhone 4S price, free at UnliData Plan 2000

Relevance: 74%      Posted on: August 12, 2012

It's during this time of the year when we see telcos start pushing the sales of the iPhone as an anticipation to the announcement of the next one. Smart is acting this early by dropping the offerings for the iPhone 4S. The original price plan for the iPhone 4S on UnliData Plan 2000 is Php2,500 cash-out. Just recently, they've dropped the cash-out price and giving it free at UnliData 2000. It's not a huge drop but that move could also push the postpaid sales of the iPhone 4S in their network. And considering there are a couple other alternatives that…
