SmartBro drops Unlimited Plug-it to Php999

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: December 17, 2009

Smart has reduced it's SmartBro Plug-It Postpaid plans to just Php999 a month of unlimited 3G internet; down from Php1,500 a month in October 2008. There's a catch though. According to Smart Customer Support (*1888), the new Unlimited Plan 999 for Plug-It is limited to speeds of up to 384Kbps. There's a 24-month lock-in period as well. Compare that to the earlier unlimited speed of up to 2MBps, that seems a bit slow. I was thinking if they had to cap the speed (like what Sun Cellular does with their tiered unlimited plans), it shouldn't be anywhere below 1Mbps. Update:…

Relevance: 90%      Posted on: September 20, 2011

Looks like Smart Bro has upgraded the bandwidth allocation of their Plug-It broadband sticks and now offers up to 5Mbps. I've been hearing about the upgrades for some time now but since the Smart website did not reflect the changes, we had to wait for the official release. The update has just been posted recently, showing this table. The Power Plug-It is now up to 5Mbps (postpaid). The Starter Plug-It is now up to 3.6Mbps (prepaid). Of course, actual speeds will vary with time of day and location. It's going to be pretty hard to validate this but if you…

According to a recent disclosure by PLDT, Smart's wireless services are still growing pretty strong. Leading the pack is the fixed-wireless service Smart Bro, closing it to half a million subscribers since it first launched 3 years ago. By end of June 2008, Smart Bro subscribers has reached about 408,000 in number. PLDT revenues from Smart Bro reached Php1.9 Billion for the first half of 2008. However, if you divide that amount by the 408k subscribers, it's just Php776 per month per subscriber (or Php317 Million per month) although MSF right now is pegged at Php999. The discrepancy may be…

Has Smart complied with the recent NTC Memo?

Was just listening to SRO over at DZMM when a radio plug for the new Smart Bro Starter Plug-It aired with the announcer mentioning some sort of minimum speed and service reliability at the end of the ad. Smart's Starter Plug-It is a prepaid kit for their mobile internet service that sells for just Php995 and comes with 1 hour free internet. So I went to their website to check out it and saw this: The fine print confirms it. "Minimum GPRS speed of 12-48kbps, where broadband service is available". It does not say anything about the service reliability though,…
