Check your WordPress themes for malicious codes!

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: August 6, 2007

If you're using free WordPress and Joomla themes, then you should check your theme files for some malicious codes. This issue was first raised by Derek of 5ThiryOne (via JaypeeOnline) which hit Digg's frontpage the other day. One of Derek's free WordPress themes have actually been modified and inserted with malicious codes. On the same note, I got a call from Michael Rogers (commonly known in the local SEO circles as seoluv) pointing me to a similar case he wrote on his blog accusing SEO World Champion Benj Arriola of willfully distributing WordPress themes with PHP codes that pulls out…

Make Money Online Making WordPress Themes

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: November 3, 2007

On WordPress.com, that is. Matt Mullenweg on Automattic recently announced a WP Theme Marketplace on WordPress.com. Now you can sell premium themes on millions of bloggers running on WordPress.com. The announcement has attracted both praises and criticisms. The main contention is that theme pricing is very subjective depending on the designer. David over at Blog Herald adds that this move smacks of hypocrisy from Matt considering that the latter has been on a crusade against theme designers making a living off of sponsored themes. Tony thinks that the 50% commission by Automattic is a bit too steep and I totally…

WP Themes for Link Building

Relevance: 87%      Posted on: April 8, 2006

One of the great things about creating free WordPress themes is the natural link building benefits you get out of it. Just over a month ago, I blogged about Gail's WP theme Dapit Hapon. Now, if you check here Technorati profile, she already has 54 links from 41 sites and almost half of it is because her theme has been used by other bloggers. If you can get just around 20 of them links each month, you'll end up with 240 link backs at the end of the year. That's a good source of traffic and PR. This is the…

Forgot to post this last week when Gail sent me a note that they just released a new WP 2.0 theme free for download here. The WordPress theme is one of the few pure Pinoy made themes that's out there and it's entitled "Dapit Hapon". They will be releasing more themes in the coming weeks all with the proudly Filipino theme. Check it out and download the theme here.

Are bloggers allowed to remove free WP Theme links?

Relevance: 38%      Posted on: April 17, 2007

While the hot issue of yesterday was more focused on paid links, I tried digging up a little bit how this came to be and found out that it might have all started with the sponsored WordPress theme issue where Google anti-spam engineer Matt Cutts previously commented on. So, when I checked here on Weblog Tools Collection about sponsored themes, it says: ...many of these themes try to legally disallow you from removing the advertising link by claiming it's part of the Creative Commons attribution to leave it. This is almost funny, because these themes are on shaky legal ground…

Relevance: 32%      Posted on: December 13, 2013

Two XDA Developers members have recently got their hands on an unofficial firmware for the Sony Xperia Z and Xperia ZL which brings a lot of improvements to the former flagship handsets. According to Xperia Guide, the unofficial firmware is meant to be used for as a preliminary build in order for developers to check for bugs and other inconsistencies. So far though, the “Commercial and Journalist” build seems to be working like a charm and can be side-loaded to your smartphone without the need to root it. But before you go tweaking your phone’s OS, here’s a list of…

Hack your way to better Adsense ad placement

Relevance: 30%      Posted on: April 10, 2006

This is a quick tip I'd like to share to those running Wordpress with themes that do no have a "single.php" page. The problem with those themes is that whatever ad you paste in the index.php will both appear on the main page and the full entry page. Thus, if you want to use the high performing ad sizes (336x280), it'll ruin your blog's layout. Others resort to just using the standard 486x60 or use the comments template instead (which doesn't completely solve the problem). If you want your ads to show up just in the full entry page and…

We visited one of the design centers of Ford's R&D facilities in Detroit during our last day of the NAIAS this week and they showed us the process in conceptualizing and creating the new 2015 Ford Mustang. We meet with key executives, design and creative heads as well as the master sculptor that shared details of the design flow and how to came up with the new look of the Mustang. The entire team started off with Ideation. This is the stage where every designer can submit concepts of what the new Mustang would look like. They are all sketches…
