Yahoo! Philippines shuts down, redirects to Yahoo! SG

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: June 7, 2015

We've already learned about Yahoo! PH's entire editorial team being given their walking papers a couple months back, leaving the website no original source of local content except syndicated stories from partner publishers. This week, global HQ made an announcement in a blog post that a number of services will also be shut down, including the Yahoo! Philippines website. Yahoo.com.ph now redirects to SG.yahoo.com Not long after the announcement, the Philippine homepage of Yahoo! PH is no longer active and being redirected to Yahoo! SG. Yahoo! PH was among the most active homepage in the region with active local content.…

Do you like the new Yahoo! look?

Relevance: 84%      Posted on: July 22, 2009

Yahoo! finally showed us their new portal re-design and this time, it's allowing users to somewhat customize the sections of the homepage. Parts of the homepage are now widgetized and users can add 3rd party apps. What I liked the most is the Favorites bar which shows a preview of what's inside the service (Twitter, Yahoo! Mail, Facebook, etc) just by hovering your mouse on the links. And oh, GMail is in there too! You can even add your own blog to the list. The reboot is only available for the global version at the moment. The Yahoo! Philippines homepage…

Relevance: 82%      Posted on: April 19, 2011

Another ones bites the dust -- this time it's Yahoo! Buzz. It's the 2nd blog-related service that Yahoo! axed this year. The Yahoo! Buzz blog has this short message post a couple of weeks ago. Yahoo! Buzz will be discontinued as of April 21, 2011. As of this date, you will be unable to access the Yahoo! Buzz site. This was a hard decision. However this will help us focus on our core strengths and new innovations. We appreciate your patronage. The Yahoo! Buzz Team Launched by Yahoo! back in August 2008, Buzz was supposed to copy what Digg was…

Big perks for Yahoo! searchers

Relevance: 81%      Posted on: February 10, 2006

Yahoo is doing some random survey asking people if they want perks in exchange for using Yahoo! as their primary search engine. The buffet includes: No Yahoo! Mail ads Unlimited Yahoo! mail storage Outlook acecss Free 5 music downloads each month Free $5 PC to phone credit Netflix discount Frequent flyer miles And more discounts on Yahoo! services... Sweet deal huh? Yahoo must be really desperate to get back that chunk of search users from Google. All searches is done and monitored via a special Yahoo! rewards toolbar.

What’s Cooking with Yahoo!

Relevance: 77%      Posted on: February 12, 2009

Yahoo! Philippines yesterday presented several milestones they achieved will all the campaigns they did in the country from last year. Wasn't able to make it on the presentation part but here's some bullet-points they sent over today including announcement of 5,000 net cafes in their Yahoo! iCafe program. What I ended up joining is the Yahoo! Top Chef/Iron Chef cook-off with other friends in the media. The challenge was to create a dish with the secret purple ingredient -- eggplant. Our winning dish -- chicken salsa rice toppings with eggplant torte. Anyway, I asked Yahoo! Philippines GM Jojo Anonuevo if it's…

Yahoo! Meme Challenge and iPad Giveaway

Relevance: 77%      Posted on: April 20, 2010

Last week, I finally joined Yahoo! Meme, partly because of that iPad giveaway they were doing but primarily because I don't want some anonymous person taking the YugaTech brand name. I already learned that lesson the hard way with Twitter so I'm not about to repeat the same mistake with the growing network on Yahoo! Meme. Besides, I'm looking at it as some sort of personal blog of sorts (much like Tumblr). So Yahoo! is doing a Yahoo! Meme Challenge for users who submit the most popular, creative and original "meme". Aside from the weekly iPod Nano winners, they're giving…

Anybody on Yahoo! Mash?

Relevance: 77%      Posted on: September 17, 2007

Yahoo! just launched its own social networking site called Mash. Here's my page. Reminds me of Friendster though pages are already set up and really easy to edit. Incidentally, Luis is cooking up something similar for SyndeoMedia too.

Yahoo! and Skype App on the iPhone

Relevance: 76%      Posted on: April 2, 2009

Two top-notch apps are now available on the iPhone App Store -- the Yahoo! App and the Skype App are ready for download to your iPhone for free. Yahoo! seems to have ditched the Yahoo! Go brand and went with Yahoo! Mobile with their new app for the iPhone. Everything is there -- from YM, to Twitter to email, including support 3rd party email providers like GMail and AOL. On the other hand, the Skype App is something a lot of iPhone owners have been waiting for but was only made available now. It's unsure whether the delay was due…

Yahoo! Answers

Relevance: 76%      Posted on: December 9, 2005

Yahoo! Answers went live on beta earlier today -- http://answers.yahoo.com. It's aimed to go head-on with Google Answers on a free-ride model. I think it's more like Wikipedia meets Ask Jeeves. I checked it out and got into it in 10 seconds -- if you have a Yahoo account. You instantly get 100 points and on level 1. You need 150 points to go to level 2 and so on and so forth. Every action has an equivalent point and people who gets bigger points are upgraded/featured. Even logging on to Yahoo! Answers gets you 1 point. Likewise, your level…
