China’s iPhone is Pink & White

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: July 17, 2008

The Chinese is getting a different iPhone in pink and white. Got pictures of this unit which is my brother's iPhone he traded with his old Motorola phone. The label says it was made by China Mobile. All I know is that it's in pink and white and has a 1.3 megapixel camera (1280x960 pixels). It looks more like a plastic toy rather than a phone. It even has the Apple logo too.

iPhone 6 prematurely announced by China Telecom

Relevance: 95%      Posted on: August 24, 2014

China Telecom has jumped the gun and prematurely announced the iPhone 6 ahead of the official Apple announcement on September 9. The announcement was made by China Telecom in their official Weibo account and though they have deleted the post, it was quickly shared by readers. The poster shows 3 color variants of the iPhone 6 along with a few details about the device. There were several leaks of the iPhone 6 before (see here) but this one by China Telecom puts a lot of credence to it. We're also been able to go hands-on with several iPhone 6 cases…

Spotted: Fake Apple Store in China?

Relevance: 92%      Posted on: September 16, 2011

Remember that huge story about fake Apple Stores across mainland China last August? There were over 20 of them found to be just a local reseller labeling their stores as "Apple Store". They have all allegedly been renamed since then but I accidentally spotted one tonight. I had to go out tonight to look for an Apple USB Ethernet Adapter to use with my Macbook Air in the hotel (forgot mine at home). This store was spotted outside the Yian Department Store here in Dongguan, China. I went inside the store and the friendly staff attended to me right away.…

Technorati blocked by the Great Firewall of China

Relevance: 88%      Posted on: April 27, 2006

Technorati has been reported to be blocked by the Great Firewall fo China. Other Chinese bloggers made the same observations but it's not fully confirmed yet. Just like any huge search engine (Google, Yahoo and MSN), Technorati may possibly pose the same threats to censorship efforts by the Chinese government especially because Technorati specifically indexes blogs. However, I don't think Technorati indexes non-English content yet so there's not much Chinese blogs in the database. [tags]technorati, blog, search, china, censor, block, great firewall[/tags]

HTC Salsa drops Facebook for Weibo in China

Relevance: 87%      Posted on: July 25, 2011

The HTC Chacha's twin touchscreen phone, HTC Salsa, has not arrived in the Philippines yet but it looks like in China, its got a totally different dedicated button altogether. Yup, the HTC Salsa Facebook phone is apparently called the HTC Salsa Weibo phone in the mainland {via}. Not really that surprising since Facebook is heavily regulated in China. The HTC Salsa is supposed to be the full touchscreen version of the Chacha and is labeled as one of the two un-official Facebook phones. HTC Salsa c510e 3.4 inches display @ 320x480 pixels 800 MHz processor Adreno 205 GPU, Qualcomm MSM…

Motorola introduces Moto X Pro in China

Relevance: 85%      Posted on: January 7, 2015

With its acquisition finally complete, Motorola, now a Lenovo company, is returning to China. And to mark this event, Motorola will be introducing three of its latest devices in the country, one of them is the Moto X Pro. The Moto X Pro is basically a Google Nexus 6 without the Nexus branding. So we're talking about a device with a 6-inch Quad HD display, front-facing stereo speakers, 2.7Ghz Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor, 13-megapixel camera with OIS, 3,220mAh battery, and stock Android minus the Google services. Also coming to China is the 5.2-inch Moto X (2nd-gen) which will be available…

Intel to leave Cavite for China?

Relevance: 84%      Posted on: April 19, 2007

Intel has been running their Cavite plant for decades now. The one in Bangkal, Makati (near South Super Highway) was abandoned a couple years ago. During our last podcast, Jomar mentioned that Intel is allegedly leaving the Cavite plant from friends/sources close to him who used to work there. I'm not sure if this rumor is true or if it's out in the news already (I Googled it and there's nothing). However, while listening to TWiT 93: GMT (34:50), John C. Dvorak mentioned that Intel is putting up a $2.5 billion fabrication plan in Dalian City, China. The story which…

ZTE Smooth: Android China Phones are here!

Relevance: 84%      Posted on: February 21, 2010

Last month, I wrote about the possible entry of China phones running Android OS in the smartphone market. Looks like ZTE counld be the first one with their "Smooth" handset. This Palm Pre-look-alike runs Android OS 1.6 and it ain't bad-looking either. According to Engadget, the ZTE Smooth has a 2.8-inch QVGA screen, WiFi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth and GPS. And at only $146, this looks like one hot item to consider (probably the very first Android smartphone under $200) when it comes out in August 2010. Hat tip to Chadd.

Google dating China, snubs US

If you think the title is too cheesy, check out Subnixus' entry on Google: The Communist Search Engine. While Google is fighting nail and tooth over privacy against the United States Department of Justice, it caved in to the fleeting request of the People's Republic of China to censor search results. (The poor chinks won't be able to use Blogger or GMail too.)
