About 3 weeks ago, I blogged about HSBC's new security feature that provides a security device for all their customers. Mine arrived 2 days ago though my landlady received the packaged for me without HSBC's required representative letter (so much for security). I followed the activation instructions that came with it but it seems their online banking system has not yet switched to the new security protocol. Maybe later... Security Bank now sends SMS on ATM transactions

Relevance: 43%      Posted on: September 1, 2014

Just received an SMS from my account manager from Security Bank early this morning (this was after one missed call). The SMS asked for confirmation on an ATM withdrawal the day before. Then, we noticed several other Security Bank customers also report of the same SMS confirmation (just that mine was more personalized). This is perhaps due to the recent string of bank ATM scams that wipe out funds of customers. I was also told by my account manager that this is a new security policy they are enforcing, especially if the withdrawals are sizable. Good job to Security Bank…

Though HSBC did not bother to inform me that they have re-activated my credit card account, they did sent me a note about a new security measure they will be implementing soon. It's a Security Device Key (SD Key) that generates a single-use, time-sensitive number which can be used to gain access to their internet banking site (online@hsbc). The key looks like the one for your car alarm and the battery that runs the LCD screen can last up to 5 years. It's a quick way to recover your online banking account in case you get hit by phishing scams,…

Google launches Security Key, aims for a safer Internet

Relevance: 41%      Posted on: October 22, 2014

Google has recently announced that it’s intensifying its security measures against phishing or unauthorized access to one’s account with the help of a device called Security Key. Security Key is, in a nutshell, a physical device that can be used to add another layer of protection against malicious websites that phishes for sensitive information such as password and financial information. It works similarly to Google’s two-step verification process, only this time users would only have to use the device instead of typing a system-generated keycode that was sent to their phone. The Security Key works hand-in-hand with the new security…
