iPhone 5 Drop Test from 50 feet high

Relevance: 100%      Posted on: December 13, 2012

Over the week, we've been doing some video shoots of iPhone 5 tips for our @GeekyNights podcast and right after we finished all 12 clips, we decided to do something crazy with the iPhones. Drop it off the 2nd floor of the building just to see what happens. Turns out the iPhone 5 is a very, very solid and tough device to break. But break it we will! So here's the result. We tried it with two iPhone 5s actually. One of them survived. We had a little fun with the challenge so we tied ours in a makeshift parachute,…

Smart LTE speed test on Sony Xperia V LTE

One of the first LTE smartphones to arrive and be available to subscribers is the Sony Xperia V LTE. It was launched in the Philippines around 2nd week of December and offered by Smart under UnliData Plan 2000. The Xperia V is somewhat akin to Sony's flagship Xperia TX that was launched a couple of months ago. The design was inspired by the signature arched posterior of the Sony-Ericsson Xperia Arc. Hardware specs aside, the highlight of this device is the LTE capability (said to reach up to 100Mbps). Sony Xperia V LTE specs: 4.3” HD display @ 342ppi w/…

What happens when you drop a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge?

Relevance: 70%      Posted on: April 3, 2015

Samsung's Galaxy S6 Edge is a beautiful device with its screen extending to both edges. The display is also reinforced with Corning's Gorilla Glass 4 which should offer better protection than commonly-used displays, but what happens when you subject it to a drop test? A user in China did this test on a functioning S6 Edge. She repeatedly smashed (not just dropped) the phone on the floor and it still worked fine afterwards with no visible cracks. You can watch the video below. However, YouTube account TechRax did the same test but instead of just smashing the phone on on the ground…

AdSense CTR Drop

Relevance: 68%      Posted on: December 4, 2007

Here's another topic for concern among AdSense Publishers. It seems that page CTR has dramatically dropped for many blogs which directly affected daily income. A couple of top-earning bloggers have mentioned this to me last month but I brushed it aside thinking that it could be some pre-holiday advertising jitter of some sort. Usually, the month of October and November are the lowest months of the year but it also depends on the niche of the blog. The drop is directly affecting page CTR by as much as 40 - 60% from previous months. In effect that translates into about…

Ubuntu fails the Granny Test

Relevance: 61%      Posted on: May 29, 2007

Serdar Yegulalp performs an exhaustive analysis of two desktop operating systems -- Ubuntu and Windows Vista -- which eventually led to his findings that Ubuntu still fails the "Granny Test". ... Ubuntu works best at handling ordinary day-to-day applications that don't require a particular operating system to work well, whereas Vista is more polished, and contains a number of convenient features that most of us can't live without. In short, although getting close, Ubuntu doesn't yet pass what Serdar calls "the Granny test," of being easy enough to use to pass muster with the general population. After installing Ubuntu on…
