Yahoo! Go 2.0 simply rocks!

Yahoo! GoThis is the first time I was able to install and try Yahoo! Go 2.0 on my WM5 phone. Earlier, I thought they didn’t support Samsung smartphones but after checking it out on my friend’s N95, I tried again. All I can say is it rocks!

Here are some of the stuff you’re missing out if you haven’t tried Yahoo! Go yet:

Sorry, I’m not available on IM

Some of you have texted me about not answering my YM messages in the last 2 days. The truth is, I can’t connect to Yahoo! Messenger via Smart GPRS. Neither can I logon to GTalk, cPanel and WHM.

I’m not sure why but I think it has got to do with my GPRS connection. (Is there a fix to this?)

Sorry if you’ve been buzzing me and it may seem I am completely ignoring you. I’m not! I just don’t have them on the whole week. :)

Email might work but I can’t promise I can respond to all of them immediately. Maybe the more urgent ones. The rest will have to wait ’til I get back to Manila. ;)

Cheerio!

Testing Smart GPRS on the road to Vigan

We head out to Vigan around 2AM this morning. I brought my car, asked my cousins to drive for me so my brother tagged along. I thought that if I had to spend this whole week in some place like Vigan, might as well make the most out of it.

Just before we left, I was checking the AirborneAccess website if they have any available hotspots in the historical city. Unfotunately, there was none, but I just remembered that Arnold posted his life-saving day by Smart 3G the other day. So I borrowed my cousin’s N6680 to try it out with my laptop. The settings would not work for the N6680 but when I tried my N3230, it worked!

Smart 3G

While on the road, I hooked up my laptop to my mobile phone and tested out Smart GPRS. Took me a while to be connected and when I was able to login, the pages load real slow, I couldn’t logon to Yahoo Messenger and I can’t view cPanel/WHM. Not a big problem but a little inconvenient especially when you want to check on your server that’s been cranking up in the past few days.

Anyway, my connection spoeed was just around 40Kbps and the pages are crawling. Even GMail is having a hard time loading.

Still, it’s way better than nothing at all. And for Php10 per 30 minutes, it’s a bargain.

Something wrong with Yahoo! Mail and GMail

This has happened on many occassions that it can’t be ignored already. There is a real problem between Yahoo!Mail and GMail — mails aren’t getting thru when sending across these two email services.

So, to test it I sent an email from my Yahoo! account to two email accounts, both a Yahoo!Mail and a GMail. The Yahoo! account got the test email almost immediately (within a minute) while the GMail account did not receive the email. The same is true when I send an email from a GMail account.

On another test, I sent two invitations from Yahoogroups to two separate email addesses, one for Yahoo and another for GMail. The Yahoo email got the invitation but the GMail account did not.

It has happened to me and several other people I frequently send emails to. I really feel there’s something wrong between these two.

Reminds me of Globe and Smart’s cross-connection problem before.
