More and more handset are now trying out Intel’s Atom chips for their handset. The latest announcement is from ZTE with the ZTE Geek packing a dual-core 2.0GHz processor.

For a couple of months now, I’ve been completely dependent on pocket WiFis (Huawei E587 & ZTE MF80) for my internet access in my new condo. Then, this Huawei B683 arrived and saved the day.
ZTE Mobile today launched 6 new handsets in the Philippines with the ZTE Skate as its flagship Android smartphone.
The update to the ZTE MF60 pocket WiFi is now faster. The ZTE MF80 is the model equivalent of the Huawei E587 and promises support for HSPA+ networks up to 42Mbps.

The HSPA+ network of Smart and Globe are continuously growing and getting wider coverage around the country. Devices like the Huawei E586 maximizes the speed of the HSPA+ network (just like the ZTE MF60). Check out our full review after the jump.
If this little teaser from Smart is any indication, Smart Evolution (4G/LTE) will be available to the public any day this month. That’s 50-70Mbps of mobile internet on the road.
Don’t exactly know when they rolled this out but just saw that Globe Telecom has upgraded their Tattoo Superstick and now offers up to 7Mbps on the WiFi device. They’re still offering the Globe MyFi but that’s just up to 3.6Mbps or 5Mbps depending on your postpaid plan.
I have been told by a reliable source that the Huawei E586 could be the pocket WiFi used by Smart for the Rocket WiFi Plus. The press release says it’s going to ride on their HSPA+ network so this looks like it.
Smart Communications has just added a new phone to their Netphone line-up. It’s an entry-level Android phone by the name of Samsung Galaxy Y with a cheaper price tag of only Php5,990 for the prepaid kit.

We featured this HSPA+ capable mobile hotspot from ZTE a few weeks ago and we’ve finally gotten a review unit to test. Like many other pocket WiFi (MiFi) devices before it, the ZTE MF60 is one pretty kick-ass unit. If only it were more affordable.
