Basemark OS II, a new cross-platform benchmarking tool

While benchmarks doesn’t really translate real-world user experience, most of us still wish to know the prowess of our gadgets. Comparison between Android, iOS, and Windows Phone devices is a struggle since only a few benchmark tools are available for the three major mobile platforms. Enter the Basemark OS II.

Basemark OS II by Rightware would like to answer our queries. It is a cross-platform benchmarking tool that runs on Android, iOS, and even Windows Phone. BlackBerry 10 isn’t included but that is understandable.

As stated in Rightware’s official website, tests for your devices are grouped by:
– System tests
– Memory tests
– Graphics tests
– Web tests
– Battery test and camera test by Sofica, a company dedicated in camera algorithms

There is a free and a full version of the said app. The free version is aimed for consumers, while the full version includes breakdowns of the memory and browser tests, as well battery performance and external storage tests. Pit it your devices and see how it fares especially flagships like Nexus 5, Galaxy Note 3, Lumia 1520 and iPhone 5s.

Editor’s note: My Nexus 7 (2013) was able to garner a score of 662.

IMO, PrimateLab’s Geekbench is still the best cross-platform benchmarking tool on the market. Works on Linux, Windows, Mac OS, Android and iOS.
