Animal Systems, the team behind the free app called Chirp has now made their super cool app available for Android users. If you haven’t heard about it, then allow us take you to a quick tour of this unique file-sharing service.
Chirp’s main function is to transmit pictures from a smartphone/tablet to another smart device using SOUND. No cables, wires, not even Bluetooth, just pure specifically pitched tones that emulate the sound of a bird’s chirp.
The app does this is by temporarily storing shortcodes of the file (pictures, notes and/or links) to the cloud. After which, the transmitting device creates a chirping sound that correlates to that file which is then decoded by the receiving device that allows it to pull that specific data from the cloud.
It does sound a bit complex on paper, but in reality all there is to do is select the file, press the big yellow button and off goes your file. No more pairing, just straight up file sharing.

For a while there I thought this app might emulate those 90’s modems w/c uses audio tones to communicate data. Turns out this is pretty much just an audio/sonic version of snapping a QR-code w/c corresponds to URL where the shared file is to be DL’d from.
Pulling the shared file from the cloud means wifi/mobile data connection is a must. Save for the Chirp’s novelty factor, using bluetooth to share/transfer files is a heckuva lot more practical.
have not heard of this…is this better than the transferring of files via bluetooth or NFC specifically the S Beam??
