We all knew that Symbian’s end is imminent. Some of us were quick to accept the reality and switched to a different platform, while others chose to silently weep and hope for the best. Well, the guessing game is over as Nokia officially announced that Symbian is down for the count.
The news broke when the Finnish company released their Q4 2012 financial results. In this lengthy report, the company pointed out in one of the bullet points under Devices and Services Operating Highlights that the industry-leading Nokia 808 will be the last of its kind. These are the exact words as it was written:
“During our transition to Windows Phone through 2012, we continued to ship devices based on Symbian. The Nokia 808 PureView, a device which showcases our imaging capabilities and which came to market in mid-2012, was the last Symbian device from Nokia.”
It was not a deliberate statement, but if we were to interpret its underlying meaning, it’s clear that Nokia is putting the last set of nails to the once highly regarded platform’s coffin.
Symbian is just one of the many casualties in this ever evolving world of technology. It’s disheartening to see a once great platform be put to rest like this, especially when we know that it still has enough fuel in the tank to make a comeback. To those who stuck with it until the very end, our hats are tipped for you guys, your loyalty is irreplaceable. As for your Symbian handsets (esp. the Nokia 808), keep it as pristine as possible, it may be worth a fortune in the future!
Ouch! Im one of their users, but for now, my Symbian phone was damaged but to be honest, i miss my Symbian phone.

Aww… Its saddened me to know that bad news.. I was once a huge fan of symbian os because it was easy to manipulate specially when downloading cracked files.. But now,its time for them to take a rest.. Nokia…keep moving forward…

Nokia would have not been the Nokia we have today if not because of its Symbian OS. 95% of all the phones that I have owned are Nokia. Symbian OS, you inspired the world to yearn for more… :)

Yeah still inlove with Symbian got Nokia 5530 and still runs well na pamana ko na little sister ko and shes loving it well apart na nawalang stylus good performance parin ang symbian sana it save nila make some amends nalang to get it better

they should have made it open source.
actually it is open source, but nokia is stubborn of developing symbian, instead of going tho more amazing symbian UIQ, they go to the not-touchscreen-friendly s60 instead!
and also this is really a tragic news since now that nokia will rely on WP but MSFT will now ask nokia for $40 on every lumia they sold! nokia should have their own develop platform in store just like samsung with its bada/tizen!
and i mean whats the point of killing it? it only need support coz it now catch up with the UI smoothness and apps are just the same number on WP (100,000+)..and there’s a lot of things that symbian can do and android/iOS/WP still cant! they should give it more time and effort! symbian can adopt!! and also nokia should cut down the price of the symbian device now!
Me not bidding goodbye yet to my ever so handy & dependable 5630. I suppose this is the only OS that could let you save your SMS to your memory card.
