According to one source close to both Smart and Globe, the top mobile messaging apps in the Philippines is dominated by Viber, WeChat and Line.
There are so many messaging apps and services out there so we know it’s a fierce battle among the players — Skype, iMessage, GTalk, Kakaotalk, Voxer, Line, WeChat, Whatsapp, Viber, SnapChat, Telegram.
According to the source that gave us the numbers, Viber is on top with 35% of the base followed by WeChat at 30% and then Line at a little under 20%. Whatsapp is down to single digits and so is Kakaotalk which has recently been pumping a lot of money in ads and endorsements.
The market share above are based on the combined usages shared by both Globe and Smart so it’s not reflective of the total number of users but just a sample size (albeit a very big chunk of the sample size).
We thought we’d also put up a poll/survey asking people which chat apps they use more often (please pick your top 3):

This data is deceiving. The reason why these apps are on top is because they are offered free for prepaid users who load. The best messenger for is obviously Skype.
WeChat = China. Kumpyansa mo mga loloy.

Viber so far so good.
No love for Kakaotalk? Looks like i’m the only one with Kakaotalk here on Yugatech.
