We’re able to get a review unit of the new Bayan Broadband 3G service. Their claim of TrueSpeed is hinged on the promise that they can deliver true 512Kbps EV-DO to your home as long as the signal is strong.
The device is similar to the USB dongle you’ve seen with Globe, Smart and Sun Cellular. The modem is made by ZTE and the design series is the same as the one by Smart (the UAAP/NCAA series).
Unlike the other telcos though, this one doesn’t seem to have a SIM card in it. All I did was fire up the dialer, configure the settings to include my client ID and connect online.
I was able to position on a location that gives me 4 or 5 bars on the signal meter and tested the bandwidth using 2Wire and Speedtest.net:
Based on the two tests, the service can do the 512Kbps it promises. What’s promising is that the upload speed is also the same/close as the download speed (as indicated by SpeedTest.net).
However, that’s still dependent on signal strength. As expected, the speed also goes down as the signal degrades. I have to do a more extensive tests with different signal strengths and sustained download speed. Will post an update entry once I collect more data and test runs.
Been using it for more than 1yr.I get connected easily anytime, speed is also good.I’m a heavy user, online games(WOW), streaming, surf and download.
I have been using this for more than 1yr now.So far, they have delivered what they promised.I am a WOW player and use internet a lot and i am still satisfied.I just hope they offer higher speed soon.I’m from Las Pinas area.
Is it good around the Marikina area? I’m from Marikina and would like to get an idea of how much speed it actually can offer me.
not good at sss village marikina … near panorama street … good thing there was a money-back return policy if you are not satisfied using it for a month … i tried it way back 2009
Thanks for your article. What I want to say is that when you are evaluating a good on-line electronics store, look for a internet site with full information on key elements such as the security statement, basic safety details, payment options, along with terms and also policies. Generally take time to see the help as well as FAQ segments to get a superior idea of how the shop functions, what they can perform for you, and in what way you can use the features.
mabilis ba etong bayan broadband along quirino highway brgy kaligayahan novaliches quezon city? im still thinking if ill go for bayan dsl or broadband coz im using a laptop. thanks. =)
may prepaid ba ito?! pag meron.. BIBILI AKO!
@Nivrea They removed the “Truespeed” advertising because it’s false advertising. Bayantel doesnt have license to “maintain” a constant minimum speed.
As i look again on the website of bayantel’s Wireless broadband, I was suprise that they already put off the word true speed in their advertisement Lola Techie in the (FAQ), Bakit kaya? kawawa naman yung mga nakakuha na ng plan.
@john cruz
nueva ecija lang kami..
kapag taka nga eh..speed test.net naman ako nag measure ng speed…accurate naman un db?
kahapon nag 4.03mbps pa ung speed…
@cyruz
tanong ko lang, anong location mo? are you within the marikina area? i am still considering smart 999.
thanks.
gmit ko smart plan 999 nakuha ko ung highest speed na 3.89mbps download speed..sulit naman..pero ung average speed sa araw araw 2.5-3mbps..
this is cool! i tried it here somewhere here along marcos highway and it’s really fast. I believe Bayan has strong signal troughout Metro Manila. My kids are using it all day long and still fast.
Cool!! I thought bayantel do not have a 3G license. Anyway, this will surely help future webinar hosts in the future. For those who are not familiar with webinar, this is like you conduct a PHP training but instead of going to an actual seminar you instead listen to the presenter online.
gOOD luck to bayantel!
i have been with bayan wireless broadband plan 512 for around 5 days now since activation.
i have difficulty logging in during the day. best time for a successful log in or connection is between 1am to 6am. speed is descent enough for browsing.
i am still within the 15-day trial period and contemplating if i will continue to subscribed to this service and locked-in for 2 years.
what do you think?

Yun nga lang limited yung lugar.
just subscribed to their plan 512 last feb 12 friday. 2-3 days activation procedure. had my first connection feb 15 monday.
i am located in marikina city and signal strength here at my place is around 4-5 bars.
connecting is really difficult. i only got connected (2 out of 10 attempts).
on the 2 instances that i got connected, most the the time the computer connected on the other end ” does not respond” so im just stuck with a connection but no surfing capability. and another thing, the signal strengh goes from 4 to 0 (zero) thus making it a useless connection.
here’s the good part, when i got finally connected, it was around 500kbps speed but not constant. you only get that speed for a few seconds and goes down to 100 to 50 to zero and bursts again to 500kbps. i am not sure what “truespeed” as advertised really is but most of the time it is around 10kbps.

good day.
