Huawei Philippines lent me a E586 pocket WiFi so I could bring it on my trip to Europe. My first stop was Amsterdam but I wasn’t able to get a prepaid SIM card there. Next was Germany and I got me a data SIM card from O2 in Cologne for 5 euros (~Php290).
We already reviewed the Huawei E586 from last year and the one lent to me by Huawei is unlocked so I’m able to use it practically anywhere (suggested retail price is Php6,500).
O2 Germany was offering HSPA+ speeds of up to 7.2Mbps on prepaid. From the speed tests I took at Cologne the other day, I was able to reach the maximum bandwidth.
The results are almost pretty much almost the same as what we got back in the Philippines although I noticed that the speeds are more consistent here.
Too bad I could not find another carrier that offer speeds faster than 7.2Mbps so I can’t really check out how much bandwidth the Huawei E586 can handle. Maybe I will be luckier when I visit Paris in two weeks.
That is what I hate the most here in the Philippines…ISPs are taking advantage of their “up to…” propaganda.
It is my belief that wireless hsdpa just sucks no matter where you go. Its all high number claims and no speed or strong signal.
I cant imagine buying this thing and only getting an average of 3 to 4Mbps down on a good day in a good location online. I would be irate
well buti pa dyan consistent ang speed….unlike dito….kung sinabing upto…eh parang hinde aabot sa upto na yun eh.
