Smart Bro replaces Smart Wifi

Smart BroSmart Communications thought their Smart Wifi brand is knee deep in the mud right now that the best thing to remedy the bad publicity is to re-name it. So, they came up with Smart Bro (is that a shortcut for broadband?)

They did some clean-up and even remove pages from their official site which mentioned Smart Wifi. Too bad that page is already #1 on Google, Yahoo and MSN for the term “smart wifi”. (I suppose my blog will take over that spot, eh?)

Migs pointed out that that Smart Bro is also a browser and a few days after the switch, Smart’s pages are already in the front page for the keyword. (I’m hoping this page will be somewhere near in the next couple of days.)

PLDT’s myDSL-w has also been consolidated under this single brand name. Subscribers comment that there’s really nothing new in terms of service improvements — just pure PR and bundling of services.

A commenter at Smart Wifi Chronicles adds:

… and I kinda agree with him.

The subscription plan did change to Php999/month, which is more expensive than the old one.

P.S.
They already registered smartbro.com.ph but left out .ph, .net.ph and .org.ph.

ahah. Smart Move ba? Well sooner or later if they don’t improve services, Smart Bro will soon catch up with the rankings. So far, 2 days is the longest downtime we’ve had (rather my daughter’s ISP)

    Fugly name.

Thank god i’m using cable :D my ZPdee hasn’t failed me… YET. and to think the only complaint i ever made to them was UPLOAD speed…. the very next day they had a tech over here to check it.

i guess that’s the perk of being the only one on my street connected to them :D

tama ba yun? nang-inggit daw ba? hehe

  4. ade says:

yep, the name is indeed fugly. you should see the TVC. it’s way fuglier.

is there a site (or blog entry) which (regularly) compares the services/subs rates of high speed interent services in the country (or at least metro manila)? So consumers can have an informed choice?

  6. nightfall says:

I was thinking of using the smart service , but what Ive heard from my friend its very unreliable. I thought this was the WiMax or WiBro (Korean standard) standard but then its just a wireless lan using their cell sites..

jun: you could check pinoydsl.net … though it seems to be down now.

speaking of which, good thing Smart didn’t call it “Smart DSL” – since “DSL” is now a generic term for “broadband” in these parts.

  8. vance says:

@jun no need, just read different forums like pinoydsl, tipidpc, and pinoypc, mostly people will reccommend globe as the top notch dsl service here in manila followed by bayantel/skydsl then pldt wired dsl and lastly smart wifi (i can’t call it smart bro, it sounds like a rap, street or whatever you call it term, which they are not)

now the big problem that smart will be facing for me is if they can keep they promises, especially network speed and customer relation services, 70% of the subscribers are still wondering and waiting when will it be and for me its quite too late for 40% of those 70% of those dissatisfied customer kasi yung 40% na yan usually has 5 or less months na lang natitira sa lock in period and that includes me.

  10. chuu says:

    im using smartbro.

nag apply ako sa wireless center in bulacan and after 2 days nkabitan na ako.

  12. SMART BRO says:

    SMART BRO,

    UMAGA 7 AM-10 AM = AYOS

    TANGHALI 11 AM – 4PM = BUMABAGAL

    HAPON 5PM – 6PM = AYOS NA AYOS

BLINKING WLAN (no internet) = just click repair in network adapter 3 x

no dns server, no ip default gateway(no internet )= unplug the poe then ping 10.0.0.1 then restart then click repair

the ip address is change (no internet)= in command prompt, type ipconfig /renew , then type ipconfig /release,

if errors appears = unplug your poe then plug, then ping 10.0.0.1 the click repair.

to boost the 384 kbps to 455 kbps, use tcp ip optimizer!!!

  13. nap says:

  16. Sir Pats says:

i have not experienced any of your complaints. My account is Meridian, hindi pa under ng SmartWifi. I only pay 750 a month – yun ang plan ko. Kinabitan ako February 1, 2005. They gave me free months (April to September 2005) since me mga problem pa sa ibang mga subscribers. I live in BF Almanza, las Piñas. I recommended the service to my friend who lives in Dasmarinas, ok naman ang connection niya. Walang problem.

  17. college student says:

Common guys, lets give SMART BRO a chance! SMART Wifi was repackaged to SMART Bro because SMART has upgraded their system to accomodate the unexpected demand for SMART Wifi. They have also addressed all the technical difficulties/complaints that have hounded them. In time, we will be able to experience a faster and smoother service.

  25. utarganunz says:
