Smart upgrades WiMax and Canopy to 2Mbps

Listen to article

Smart sent out an announcement last week that they’re upgrading all their Canopy and WiMax subscribers from 1Mbps to 2Mbps while retaining the MSF at Php999.

The Smart websites still states 1Mbps so that one need to be updated to reflect the new speed upgrade.

Not sure if this upgrade is applied automatically to all existing subscribers or you’ll have to request it as part of renewal/extension. What we verified is that new subs will get the 2Mbps plan right away, plus a few additional freebies.

Anyone out there using Canopy or WiMax and experience the increase in speed?

Well, that’s what I get. What should I do? Call they service lines?

What should I say?

Call the hotline, give SRN and file a complaint about slow connection.

JI
Jimbo · 15 years ago

I’ve done that before, they made excuses like some repairs in their relay stations and such. I think that they know nothing on helping my connection be better.

JH
jherwynne · 15 years ago

you should know how to play with their game. If they say issue with serving site, then try looking for someone na may wimax and try it yourself and see if the same issue persists. You may also try bringing your wimax to different location. Yan ang ginagawa ko kapag may issues ako kaya they can’t make any excuses. If they say na baka may virus and PC or baka may app na download sa background, I tell them that I also have Mac and PC running Linux (which I do) having the same issue. You gotta make their noses bleed as well. Try looking for a supervisor. With all these, am sure that they will raise it up to the support team. Keep the ticket number and keep on following up. 3 calls in a day, I guess, will mark a red flag on your account putting it on priority. :)

I do direct downloads at speed of 30-50kbps is that fair for Smart Bro? Of course it depends on the time of day and how clear the skies are outside.

jherwynne · 15 years ago

NO! Unless they have implement FUP for heavy downloaders. Well that’s if you are one of them. If not, regardless if there’s FUP or not…then for at least 1Mbps should go 80 to 100 KB/s.

Jerwin Paglicawan · 15 years ago

They just updated the website removing the part that says current subscriber will get the same boosts at no extra charge. Iwas pusoy nanaman si Smart. Good thing I have screenshots and currently dealing this concern with NTC and DTI.

I’ve been using Smart’s Wimax for a year now and the service has been good for me. Consistent naman na pumapalo ng 100+kbps dl speed magdamagan kaya I’m happy with it. Btw, I’m using it here in Makati both for torrents and premium links.

3rd week of Nov. pa raw iooffer yung free upgrade to existing subs under Wimax. Hooray for free speed upg! :D

Yung sa Globe kasi talagang up to 1 Mbps lang eh yung sa Smart up to 2 Mbps.

Correction – 100KBps DL speed average…
Will show test results from speedtest as soon as I get home though di din siya consistent most of the time…

I can show you a graph of my download speed though…

actually, hindi internet mo ang mabagal, on my stable 1mbps connection it took almost 3minutes for me to load this page and the comment section. mas malala pa ito sa nararanasan kong *request time-out* pag pumupunta ako sa tipidPC site. ewan ko what’s the problem with this site. Ayos sana magbasa, pero if it will took me that time, nakakatamad..sana maayos.

Globe Wimax versus Smart Wimax

Globe

– Product Name: Tattoo Wimax

– Speed: Up to 1 Mbps

– Price: 995 per month

– Lock-in Period: 1 year?

– Website:

http://tattoo.globe.com.ph/product/wimax#details

Smart

– Product Name: Home (Fixed) Wiress Plan and Wimax Plan

– Speed: Up to 2 Mbps (Promo is from September 16 to December 31, 2011)

– Price: 999 per month

– Lock-in Period: 2 years

-Website:

http://www1.smart.com.ph/bro/products/unlimited-home-broadband/

http://www1.smart.com.ph/Bro/promos/smart-home-plan-999

Better catch up Globe or else your customers will go to Smart!

if you have an old canopy – around 2009 and below siguro – your canopy needs to be changed. and dati pa 2Mbps na ung connection even before the announcement. I posted about how to increase the speed to 2Mbps here – http://bit.ly/uNpV2p

The smartbro contractors are not trained how to optimally setup your canopy so you might need to tweak it manually.

been a smart bro subscriber for almost 2 years now, mula ng nagsubs ako no prob sa internet connection, i get a constant speed of 500-900kbps during the day at 1-1.5mbps midnight until 8am. since oct 2011 my net started to fluctuate, worst laging nadidisconnect at ang speed, 30kbps, saan ka mas mababa pa sa dial up!

been calling smart’s cs lagi sinasabi ok anman daw internet at signal mula base station to my canopy. i even asked several csr kung talaga bang nasa 2mbps ako sa plan ko kasi hindi ko maramdaman since simula, sagot sa akin, “yes sir, 2mbps po ang nasa speed plan niyo”.

sabi nila they check the system and ask the engineering dept to make changes to may canopy settings then they’ll call me again kung ok na or kung no solution ang makuha eh papalitan or ayusin ang canopy ko. been waiting for several days wala pa din. the guy even asked me kung nakarouter ba ako, kasi pang isang computer lang daw ang service nila, i said yes at yun daw ang prob kung bakit di ako nakakakuha ng constant speed. i told him na since day 1 na kinabit yun smart bro ko ay nakarouter na ako, almost 2 years na then sasabihin na router ang prob ko, i even upgraded the firmware of my router. i also did everything that i know to trouble shoot the problem and read about it sa net.

the good thing hindi na ako nadidisconnect at umakyat na speed ng 300-500kpbs pero asan na ang speed na dapat sa plan ko.

a csr called me if i want to renew my subscription for another 2 years, i asked her kung 2mbps pa din ang ibibigay nila na speed sa plan ko, ang sagot niya, “sir sa technical dept po iyan, sa accounts po ako”. sabi ko miss wait lang i’ll get back to you or i’ll just go to one of your stores.

i’m still waiting for the upgrade and the repair of my canopy kung my prob nga ba or wala.

I hope this doesn’t offend you, pero as for my experience, Satisfied ako sa service na binibigay sakin ng PLDT I get constant 1Mbps all-day-long 24/7. May mga down-times pero cause un ng Migration or technical repairs which is kapag pinuntahan mo naman talaga yung site ng repairs(sa box) ginagawa naman talaga. Yeah I pay for a good service they even come-up with rebates if ever hindi maganda yung service na nakukuha ko. Tingin ko place basis din, kasi I heard from a friend na somewhere in Cavite panget daw ang service ng PLDT, which is kabaligtaran dito sa Marikina, almost all households d2 ay lumilipat na ng PLDT or SmartBRO kasi ang ganda ng service, constant speed etc. yung Costumer Support lang ang badtrip kasi ang tagal sagutin pero okay lang kasi isipin mo naman ang dami nilang subscribers, so for PLDT dito sa Marikina Area, two-thumbs up! And again, siguro case-to-case basis din..by area din siguro.. this is not my opinion, this is base on my own experience.
