We caught the scoop a few days ago and it’s now confirmed. Smart has finally unveiled its newest mobile internet device — the Smart Bro Rocket WiFi Plus — which claims speeds of up to 20Mbps.
The SmartBro Rocket WiFi Plus is an upgrade to their Pocket WiFi which used to be only up to 5Mbps and in conjunction to the previously released Rocket WiFi dongle. This one has the ability to share WiFi with up to 5 devices.
It’s not yet readily available in prepaid but is now on a pre-order period for now. The one-time price for the kit is Php6,495.
The catch — Php200 per 180MB, just like the Rocket Plug-It. No UnliSurf plans. The prepaid kit comes with a free 180MB allocation.
Now that’s pretty expensive if you asked me. I think you’d easily consume 180MB in single day.
I bought a smart bro rocket plugin. I checked carefully about the area that the 4G smart covers. I live in Malate and yes, it is on their website that there is 4G signal. I bought one, i used it immediately. The speed was 0.43 mbps as per speedtest.net, i thought something was wrong with the stick i bought because it disconnects and it is very slow. my phone internet browser is more faster. I did some experiments. I inserted my smart sim to an open line globe tattoo and it was faster. Got 2.10MBPS. I did this experiment more than ten times. I have concluded that my smart rocket is defective. I went back to smart. I still have the receipt, 7 days warranty is yet over they don’t honor REFUNDS, only REPLACEMENT. They asked me to go to SM Manila (the nerve!) to have the smart rocket bro stick to be checked by their service center. They tested it and it was found defective, there was no signal. They gave me a certificate stating that the device is broken and needs to be replaced.
After that, i went to SMART center at SM MANILA. They agent said that they don’t have any stock for replacement. I tried believing them.
The next day, I went back to Robinsons place manila where i bought my Smart Rocket plugin. I asked the security guard if they have stock because I want to replace mine. He went to the back office, came out and said that they dont have stock for replacement. I said “what do you mean you don’t have stock for replacement?” If i will buy a new one, they have stock but if I want to replace mine, they don’t have stock.
I am so frustrated. bought this stupid defective stick for almost 4,000 pesos!!
1. they don’t honor refund it
2. I was the one who went to their service center which they asked me to do this personally. this should be done by them.
3. Proven that my device is defective. They wont replace it immediately because they don’t have STOCK for REPLACEMENT. in the first place, i want a refund.
4. They only have stock if I will buy a new one.
5. THEY SHOULD REPLACE MY DEVICE WITH A NEW, FRESH ONE,NOT A REPLACEMENT STOCK.
6. Their landline which is printed on their receipt is not working, i think it is a FAX.
it is now december 16, I bought this device lat December 8, been going to SMART center at Rob Everyday. Wishing for a replacement.
Do you think DTI can act on this incase i file a complaint?
i am just so frustrated. Bought this one as an xmas gift for myself.
Some time news stations have watch dogs where they will go to smart and ask them why they do not have stock for replacement for you. I know they have it here in Canada and the US, Maybe you should try. What they are doing is illegal and one letter from a lawyer would scare them into giving you an replacement. So if you have a friend that knows a lawyer he might write a letter for you. What happened to you needs to get into the news paper so they will be found out for the dishonest company they are
dont be fooled by SMART. all they is to get money from you. save yourself.

thanks for the info.
If you can afford grab it, if not, be happy with what you have.
Of course, we can choose what we want. We’re just saying that this pricing scheme is retarded and even sir Abe is confused regarding the target market of this Smart Bro “Racket”.
Who comes up with these plans? This plan is useless. It’s going to be too expensive if you’re going to use it to download files larger than 180MB (and considering how fast it is, you’re going to eat through that 180MB several times over the span of a day). It’s not impossible to download 720 mbs in a day with that speed (p200 X 4 = almost 1 monthly bill na ng 1mbps postpaid, sa isang araw lang. With a decent 1mbps connection, you can download the same amount if you leave your PC on for the rest of the day)
…and if you’re only going to use it to browse/tweet/blog or download files smaller than 180MB, then you may as well just get a 1mbps prepaid or a postpaid one.
Fak! No way am I going to get this thing with that PRICE! I’ll stick with Globe’s 3mbps thank you very much.

I too agree with everyone’s thoughts about this. 20mbps then Smart will charge you P200 for every 180mb of data usage? Ha! That is just so wrong! :|
HI.. WE DON’T NEED TO EXPENSE TOO MUCH MONEY FOR INTERNET.LET US STAND BY FOR THE NEW BROADBAND WILL COME OUT SOON. PRICE?? 5 PESOS MY PANG INTERNET KA NA FOR 1 HOUR IN THE SPEED OF 2MBPS…. 4G airman technology soon

What’s the use of having 20Mbps when you’re being charged per 180MB? This is ridiculous!

Ngekkk. Kala ko pwede unlisurf
No thank you.
this doesn’t sound SMART. more like FART! LOL
Seems a bit pricey but this one is better than Globe’s version, isn’t it?
Boycott all companies and products under Manuel “Manny” Pangilinan. Smart, PLDT, Maynilad, ABC-5, North Expressway.
i could boycott the communications arm of the salim group because there are a lot of alternatives,, but could you boycott maynilad for mwss. and NLEX for mc arthur??? they monopolize both in that field…
Boycott mo mukha mo! HaHaha!
I doubt that it’ll reach 20 Mbps. So maybe around 10 minutes. But that’s for loading times, which means that it’ll reach around 10 hours of use for regular surfing (without constant loading, like for example, youtube). STILL, IT’S FREAKIN OVERPRICED.
