What is Globe’s Magic IP and why is it free?

Been getting a lot of comments from readers regarding this certain Magic IP from Globe which allegedly allows users to be able to still surf the net even with zero load. So I sent out a message to @talk2globe if they knew anything about it.

All I got was this answer — @talk2globe: Nope! We don’t have or offer such service. .

However a number of Tweeps replied back to me saying it is possible.

I did a little bit of digging, found a number of instructions in the forums and tried it.

After a couple of tries, I was able to surf the net using a Globe Tattoo and a Globe SIM card with no load in it except for a few hundred free SMS credits. Nope, I’m not teaching you how to do it but if you’re motivated enough, a few Google searches will point you to the right direction.

This is because you can still dial-in and connect to their network without any load credits (what Globe does is cap your bandwidth down to 0kbps until you reload).

It looks like the Magic IPs are a block of IP addresses you can use as a proxy to bypass the bandwidth cap set by the network (or something to that effect).

Turns out that this loophole has been out as early as last year (some says it’s been there since 2009). The Magic IPs actually expire or is eventually blocked by Globe’s network engineers every month so users will look for a new set of IPs.

What’s actually more interesting is that a number of enterprising people who have early access to new sets of Magic IPs would actually peddle them — all for a very low price of Php200. Been seeing comments from some of them here but ignored it for the longest time.

There’s also widespread “selling” of this services by shady individuals and they’re completely unashamed.

  6. Avatar for Tamalee Tamalee says:

I agree that the forums, blogs and other sites that show information about this unscrupulous acts should be taken down if they continue to discuss and trade this illegal “hack”. They should also sanction admin and site owners to recover IP addresses used inside forums and blogs who participated in this illegal trade.

    • Avatar for Tanga Ka Tanga Ka says:

Perhaps someone with authority should remind them that they are harboring criminals in their own site.
